The beaches in Florida are the favorite surfing spots for locals and tourists alike. This week was extra special for the surfing community in the area because of the huge waves ramped up by Hurricane Lee. The surfers were excited to catch some of the biggest waves of the season. However, that excitement soon turned to horror, which slowly gripped the entire community.

On Monday morning, one alarming news followed another, stirring up panic in the community. Two men were found in the water just hours apart from each other. As the waves surged, fate dealt the two men with vastly different hands.

Surfers found a 48-year-old man lying face down in the water just a few yards from the Daytona Beach Pier. According to the initial reports published on Fox 35 Orlando, the man belonged to the city of Deltona in Florida. The surfers gave him rescue and pulled him to the shore with a lot of difficulties. Thereafter, the Beach Safety officials rushed to their side, and the trained lifeguards performed CPR.

He was still unconscious even after repeated attempts to revive him. Eventually, the medical personnel from the Halifax Medical Center transferred him to the hospital. As of Tuesday, the man is still receiving treatment at the hospital. Kwami Pennick, who was on a surfing trip in Florida from Melbourne, saw the man at the edge of a rip current and thought it unusual.

Moments later, he heard the man shouting out for help and quickly alerted the other surfers on the beach. They fearlessly jumped into the water and pulled him back to shore. Their selfless act saved the man’s life and probably prevented a potential tragedy. So far, there have been nine ocean-related deaths on Daytona Beach, with the latest one taking place less than an hour before this incident.
