The NFL GOAT Tom Brady lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the seventh time in his career in 2019. During their celebratory boat parade with the Buccaneers players, Brady tossed the trophy to his fellow teammates in another boat behind him. Now, given that another major sporting team in Ice Hockey was to celebrate their victory in the same city a few months later, Brady’s action was challenged rather hilariously by the Twitter handle of this sports trophy. Not one to pass up a chance to show his sense of humor, Brady tweeted back to convey his prowess under the influence of alcohol.

Besides the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the Stanley Cup too set sail in the Hillsborough river in 2019. Their championship victory and subsequent celebration took place a few months later. Thus, after observing Brady’s action of throwing the trophy, Stanley Cup made an official tweet as a dig at Brady. Here’s how that hilarious exchange took place.

Tampa Bay, Florida’s Gulf Coast city, had a major outing in the sporting world in 2019 and 2020. The city is home to the NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NHL team Tampa Bay Lightning, and both teams lifted their respective trophies in subsequent years, i.e. the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2019 and Stanley Cup in 2020, respectively. The Lightning did one better than the Buccaneers by capturing the next year’s trophy as well. Thus, when the Stanley Cup was to go through that same route as the Bucs trophy parade in 2019, the official Twitter handle of the trophy taunted Tom Brady on Twitter.

“FYI I’m too heavy to throw, @TomBrady”, wrote Stanley Cup via its Official Twitter page. The large cylindrical cup of silver-nickel alloy is 35.25 inches high and weighs 34.5 lbs. It was initially 7.28 inches high and 11.42 inches wide. Compared to it, the Vince Lombardi trophy is 22 inches high and weighs around 7 pounds. While the Stanley Cup was right about its enormous size and weight, the tweet was a funny way of calling out Brady for his action during the Buccaneers’ parade.

However, Brady had a joke up his sleeve too. He tweeted back, “Idk…everything feels a bit lighter after some tequila” with a smiley face. While he never explicitly mentioned, Brady and his teammates were celebrating heavily, probably with some “tequila” as TB12 put it.

The Buccaneers’ celebration took place at 11 am on the 10th of February when Brady did his infamous action in the river. Two years since that incident, Brady got a chance to recall that fun moment.

Recently, Brady reminisced about the Lombardi throw to another boat in the ‘Let’s Go’ podcast with Jim Gray. Brady had actually thrown the trophy to Rob Gronkowski, and a video of that throw from Gronkowski’s angle was tweeted by ESPN. Even during the podcast, Brady had his sense of humor intact and said about the throw, “It was probably the best throw I’ve had the entire week of the Super Bowl…. I threaded the needle”.

All of Brady’s Super Bowl victories prior to the one with the Buccaneers (6 of them) were with New England Patriots, a team he spent 20 years with. The Tampa Bay Lightning on the other hand had won their second straight win in 2019.
