Remington Park in Oklahoma has seen many neck-and-neck races over the years, but none can compare to what happened this past weekend. The thrilling battle for the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby title was underway, and the equine participants put up a strong performance. Not one but three challengers found the wire at the same time. The winner was finally decided from a photo finish where the judges had to examine the race footage closely. Who won the $400,000 equestrian prize in the end?
How Did He Do That delivered a shocking performance and lived up to his name and also his legacy. The three-year-old colt is the son of equestrian champion Good Magic. While his good run may be the result of his spectacular DNA, the last-minute surge that brought him the victory is pure Steve Asmussen magic.

Steve Asmussen is the country’s most winningest trainer, with over 10,000 thoroughbred races won during his illustrious career. He was also the trainer with the most success at Remington Park. But he had not won the Oklahoma Derby since 2017 and was getting eager to reclaim the title. With his expertise and guidance, he understood that How Did He Do That had the champion mentality and had been working with him non-stop. The result of this training bore fruit at the track when the colt pulled every iota of his energy to surpass his competitors in the nick of time. As per Paulick Report, the 1st runner-up was another Asmussen trainee, Red Route One.
How Did He Do That covered the 1 1/8 miles track distance with remarkable speed at 1:50.34. The equestrian fans who bet on him were happy to see their faith in him pay off. Those individuals who bet on both the Asmussen-trained horses got $524.40 for a $2 exacta. While the fans were glad of their winnings, they were even more thrilled to witness the close competition between the three horses.
