King Ice secured the $250,000 Governor’s Handicap trophy in an unusual fashion. When the horse left the post nine, it seemed reluctant to achieve significant speed. While all the other Colts shot out of their post, King Ice showed no interest in giving chase. Santo Sanjur and Bad Boy Geist took advantage from the start and overtook Run Away Rojo at the turn. The spectators’ attention was fixed on the top horses like Looking Good Lewis and Win Me Over. Run Away Rojo also smartly conserved its energy and kept trailing the others, looking for an opportunity. At the final turn, Run Away Rojo surprised everyone with its late surge. But no one noticed that King Ice was already closing in on it with incredible speed.

King Ice ran with great determination down the final stretch. In the end, it won the race by a distance of 3 1/4 lengths. Run Away Rojo came in second place, followed by Corona Grande and ridden by Edgar Morales in third place. After the race, Graham spoke to Paulick Report and said, “I think he enjoys it…Last time, I tried to force him to move on, but he didn’t go”. The special nature of the horse and its rare talent has made him a favorite for his owners. The Keen Ice colt is cherished by the owners as their most precious possession.
