Home/Olympics

Simone Biles is a force to be reckoned with in the gymnastics world. A household name in the athletic sphere, her illustrious reputation keeps growing with new titles and flawless scores. The Texas-born gymnast is at the top with 25 Worlds wins, making her the most decorated athlete in gymnastics history. She is also known for being at the forefront of discussing complex topics, in addition to her elite status in her community. With her firm stance after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics withdrawal or calling out the dirty laundry aired online, she never shies away from taking a stand for herself.

Having spent the weekend in Ohio, where her husband, Jonathan Owens, was playing safety for the Green Bay Packers, she only returned this week. On a fine day recently, upon noticing a repetitive flaw in a company’s service, she called them out on social media.

After cheering for Jonathan in a Green Bay Packers jersey with his number 34, Simone had the ideal start to the week. However, it turned into a rather awful day for Simone when her UPS (United Parcel Service) delivery did not hand over the parcels to her. She posted an Instagram story about being “so f*n tired of it.” In a long caption explaining her frustration, Biles mentioned how she constantly gets the “sorry we missed you” note stuck to her glass door.

UPS is one of the biggest American shipping services in the world and is among the Fortune 500 companies. Biles raised her complaints in bold font as she wrote, “bro…. I’m TIRED of UPS,” emphasizing how she was home and the delivery guys just did not bother to ring the doorbell. Her anger was clear from the four rolling eye emojis she added to her caption. Her reaction was only obvious since it wasn’t the first time this had happened to her.

Being the largest courier company in revenue, worth billions of dollars, UPS is now put on the spot by Biles. Simone even posed a question to her fans after detailing her issues with the company. She asked, “Anyone else?????,” to figure out if this was a normal occurrence with the company. Biles was definitely upset by the lack of professionalism; the incident occurred just days after she called out an attempt to air dirty laundry.

Her response to indirect discredit to her journey

A lot has happened over the past few weeks for Simone. She made her grand return with perfect scores in U.S. Classics, met Owens after 30 long days, and brushed off name-calling. It all happened nearly a week ago when Konnor McClain’s progress was posted in an Instagram update by Gymcats Gymnastics. The post was intended to simply justify the 5-time US national team member?s place as a true gymcat. Things soon took a problematic turn when it made clear reference to the triumphant Simone’s decision to take a two-year career break to prioritize her mental health.

The latter part of the post caption read, “When @usagym staff (2 of them) said Simone was one of the laziest gymnasts they?ve ever coached, we knew something was wrong.” Biles simply responded with a GIF referring to the popular Cardi B meme, “What was the reason?”?What message does it send to the world that looks to exploit failings if the attack comes from a member of your own community?
