Sonia Dantu says that the annual wildfires that occur in Alberta around May are nothing new to the residents of the province. According to Global News Calgary, as the snow melts in the spring, it reveals the ‘fuel’ of twigs, branches, and dead leaves. Extremely large wildfires may break out when the weather is hot and dry because these factors make the fuel more combustible. However, this year’s wildfires in Alberta were caused by a combination of variables, including record-breaking heat and below-average rainfall. Dantu explains how authorities reached out to the Alberta Equestrian Federation in an effort to unite and aid the people of Alberta.
