Wagner Figueiredo de Lima, a former Brazilian citizen, and his horse Sereno had a singular relationship. They had a distinct bond with each other spending many happy years together engaging in equestrian pursuits. Tragedy struck, when de Lima was killed in an accident. Soreno’s plight at the loss knew no bounds. The horse displayed such anguish at the funeral that not a single eye was seen dry.

In 2017, a video on social media of Sorena bidding goodbye to his beloved partner racked up over 6 million views. A poignant farewell from a horse mourning his owner’s death caused the video to go viral.

In the video shared by Inside Edition, we see how Sereno paused by Lima’s casket, to take a whiff, while it was being transported in the presence of de Lima’s weeping friends and family. The horse began making sorrowful noises almost immediately after realizing that it would no longer be seeing its dearest human friend. Sereno stomped and whimpered inconsolably as the casket was taken to the cemetery.

Wagner Figueiredo de Lima tragically passed away as a result of a motorbike accident. Lima’s brother, Wando, wanted his brother and his equine companion, Sereno, to have one final chance to say goodbye to each other during the funeral ceremony.

Lima, a 34-year-old Brazilian man, was the proud owner of Sereno, whom he regarded as his best friend. After eight years together, the horse and his owner had to part ways, as is often the case in fairy tales.

Continuing the legacy of the human-equine friendship

After the tragic death of de Lima, his brother Wando chose to take in their horse, Sereno. Like his brother had done for the horse for the previous eight years, Wando welcomed the animal with nothing but love and affection.

Sereno was comforted, receiving the love and attention he needed. By doing this, Lima’s brother Wando preserved the memory of their exceptional relationship that bridged the gap between human and equine species.

What this entire tale demonstrated was the importance of simple things in the relationship between the deceased rider and the horse. The way Sereno exhibited its grief made it clear that the mourners there would be inconsolable as well.
