It can be really enjoyable to go skiing down a mountain covered with snow. But if there’s anything lurking in the snow that the skier may come into contact with, that joy might quickly turn into a terrifying nightmare. On March 7, 2023, an event occurred that shocked the life of this 17-year-old skiing prodigy. Seven miles into the wilderness of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he plunged from a cliff with a rough landing. His tibial tubercles had been broken and ripped off at the growth plate by the impact of the landing. But in his last Instagram post, he announced some exciting news for his fans.

According to his recent Instagram post, though, skier Kai Jones’ nine-week injury is now completely recovered.

Kai Jones’s sheer abilities and talents as a skier have astounded the globe, with his performances in competitive ranges and feats enough to startle a ski pro. Jones had high hopes for his ski trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but things didn’t quite work out that way. Jones’s strategy included jumping over cliffs with a soft landing, but the actual impact fractured his tibial tubercles. In order to help with the skier’s rescue, Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) was contacted. TCSAR employed a short-haul rescue technique to transport him to the closest parking lot, which took an hour and eleven minutes. From there, he was sent to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery.
