Home/Olympics

Freeskiing, sometimes known as “new school” skiing, is a subgenre of alpine skiing that emphasizes aerial acrobatics and the use of terrain park obstacles, including rails, boxes, jibs, and other features. Apart from the Olympics, there are no restrictions on it; nonetheless, only skilled athletes, often known as “extreme sports athletes,” ever attempt to engage in the sport. If you’re into extreme sports, you’ve probably seen Cole Richardson’s social media postings where he publishes his antics on ski ranges. The freeskier, recently published an old video of himself.

Two years ago, while shooting for Matchstick Production’s “Stomping Grounds,” Richardson went cartwheeling down a mountain after losing control. The skier posted the clip a few days earlier on his social media account, as it was ultimately cut from the final video. With so many of his followers shocked by this unprecedented incident, the video quickly went viral.

That was really a ‘breath-taking’ experience

According to Richardson, he was hoping for a “perfect stomp” when he made that giant leap of faith on camera. The skier makes efficient use of the cliff’s ice surface by doing a double backflip in midair before landing softly on the snow below. Unfortunately, the skier’s landing wasn’t as graceful as he had hoped, and he immediately began doing cartwheels on his own down the mountain.

Two years have passed since this event, and Richardson is still skiing and physically capable of doing more tricks. In the video’s description, he said, “I’ll getem next time,” implying that he still intends to finish the failed trick he attempted in the clip.

Putting aside the massive wipeout, Richardson’s effort demonstrated impressive freeskiing skills. Doing a double backflip over a massive cliff at mid-line is a certain way to show the skiing community that you’re in it for the thrills. The reason, without a doubt, for how quickly it became viral!

Leaving the alpine skiing community stunned

The Instagram video quickly garnered around 100,000 views in only a few days. This stunt left many fans in a state of shock, and one comment read, “That was sick! You’ll get it next time.” A viewer also pointed out how crucial was the skier’s luck, saying, “You came within inches of that killer tree! Looks like you were pretty lucky to me.”

The footage proved without a reasonable doubt that freeskiing is serious business. The skier, on the other hand, is an expert at making the most of a bad situation.
