In the closing months of 2022, AI became available to the general public. Since then, interest in AI has grown exponentially, and nowadays almost everyone has dabbled in using it for at least one activity. Recently, however, a heated dispute erupted in the sports world when the widely used AI chat box ChatGPT released a ranking of the best 10 female athletes of all time. Top sportsmen like Serena Williams, one of the most successful tennis players of all time, who has won 22 grand slam titles, contributed to the list’s appeal. It also included Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in American history. Disputes arose over the AI’s choices, and now great alpine skier Lindsey Vonn has weighed in with her thoughts.

NBC Sports Twitter page shared ChatGPT’s list of the top female athletes in history. OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT on November 30th, 2022. Since then, the same company has given the world DALL.E 2 and Whisper AI, two further examples of artificial intelligence technology. Although OpenAI has made available a $20/month subscription edition of ChatGPT, the free version is still available to anybody with an internet connection. While TikTok took nine months to achieve the same milestone, the AI only needed two months to amass 100 million active users, making it one of the fastest-growing websites. Many sports enthusiasts jumped into the comments section when NBC Sports shared a tweet with a list of the top 10 female athletes compiled by ChatGPT.
