Tony Hawk, the legendary skateboarder who has effortlessly pulled off some of the sport’s most difficult feats, needs no introduction. He also achieved the first ever ‘900’ trick on a skateboard, making him a pioneer in contemporary vertical skating. But he didn’t learn all his skills overnight. Rather, he worked on them every day with complete focus until he reached the position where he is now. However, Tony Hawk often injured himself in the process. The legendary figure once said that the injuries he suffered paled in comparison to the ones he saw with his own eyes.

The American comedian Theo Von appeared in the 2022 episode of the Hawk vs. Wolf podcast with Tony Hawk and the Australian radio personality. Skateboarding, superstitions, stalkers, and other similar issues were among the many that were addressed. Nonetheless, the media personalities were shocked when Von confronted Hawk about the injuries he suffered throughout his career.

Theo Von first brought up the topic of injuries because he was intrigued by the number of skateboarding-related fatalities. Tony Hawk also acknowledged that many people had been hurt or even been killed by accidents related to skateboarding. After that, the comedian inquired about Hawk’s experience with injuries. The 54-year-old legend related an incident in which he fractured his pelvis, head, and thumb all at once. While Von burst out laughing as he told Hawk, “You’re half a mummy at that point,” Hawk was also amused by the joke. Hawk shared his humor, knowing well that being hurt is par for the course if you want to make it as a top-tier skateboarder like himself. After some time, the legend revealed the details of the most gruesome injury he had ever seen.

In the podcast, Tony Hawk says, “I want to say like the worst. The worst thing you say I saw a dude break his arm here. And then his arm was just dangling and like dangling behind him. Like it was just flopping around. That was pretty heavy.” Australian radio personality Jason Ellis can still say “that’s pretty cool” while Hawk was describing this gruesome injury. The three different personalities were discussing the injuries in a relaxed manner and recounting their own histories.

The list of Tony Hawk’s injuries is far longer than you may think. A skateboarder who is dedicated to perfecting a trick will give it as many tries as he can muster before giving up. His commitment cost him dearly, as he suffered multiple injuries during his career. At the age of 11, he had his first serious injury. It seemed as if a bullet had passed through both of his teeth, shattering them. His second worst injury occurred in 1986 while he was participating in a street event, and he suffered a cut to his leg, requiring stitches.

He broke his first bone, an elbow, during a stunt while shooting an advertisement while he was in his 30s. The next time was when he took a blow to the head and received a concussion, but his helmet prevented any serious injury. Later that day, though, Hawk went to the hospital and started throwing up all over the place. Then the notorious accident happened, in which he fractured his thumb, skull, and pelvis all at once. The famed skateboarder states that after badly injuring his thumb, he was forced to alter his signature.
