Fans of the NHL know Alexander Ovechkin and his knack for scoring goals. He is the master of disguise and often arrives in perfect positions to crash the net. Eight goals shy of Gordie Howe in the all-time goalscorers list, Ovechkin looks to pass him. With Wayne Gretzky in his sights, it prompted his teammate Evgeny Kuznetsov to jokingly discuss the hassles that the Great One is preparing for the ‘Great Eight.’

In a recent interview with the former Washington Capitals center, Andrei Nikolishin, Kuznetsov explained Gretzky’s grand plan. “I know that Sasha communicates well with him,” said Kuznetsov. It adds intrigue to a story that is developing well.
Wayne Gretzky pulls off all the tricks from his playbook!
Kuznetsov continued, “In general, we joked that Gretzky would now be throwing [money] at the teams we were playing against. In 10 years he will be bankrupt–no money.” With a net worth of $250 million under his belt, it would take some time for him to go bankrupt! However, looking at the statistics, it would not surprise Wayne if Ovechkin passes him in the distant future.

Significantly, Gretzky leads the all-time goal-scoring list with 894 goals. But Ovechkin is closing rapidly, only behind by 101. Besides those 894 goals, Gretzky has 1963 assists against his name; in the meantime, Alex accumulated over 642. Although the former No: 99 is the GOAT of the sport, Ovechkin would love to take over the goal-scoring charts.
It has been a productive season this time for the sharpshooting Russian player. Currently, he scored 13 goals and has 12 assists with a shooting percentage of 11.9. Therefore, the 37-year-old would probably have a couple of seasons to go and would eventually reach Gretzky’s record.
The unbreakable record gets closer and closer!

For years, people wondered how anyone could come close to Gretzky’s monumental records. The scenario has changed. “Everyone has their own job on the ice, sometimes you don’t even notice what you’re becoming a part of. Then you look from the side and think, ‘Damn, the dude can beat Gretzky’s record’–and Gretzky was considered an unattainable person all his life,” mentioned Kuznetsov.
