The widely acclaimed, Wayne Gretzky is a truly spirited soul. He once revealed that he took his centenarian mother-in-law’s firm advice and took up a day job. He realized it was something that would help keep him engaged and busy. Although his job surrounded the NHL domain itself, he seemed pretty content with his new venture.

In a podcast with NBA on TNT, Wayne Gretzky, then 60, revealed that his 100-year-old mother-in-law, Jean Jones advised him to get himself enrolled in a job post-retirement. A real one.  Guess what The Great One had to say?

Wayne Gretzky took up a new job.

“When this all came about, she said you’re a young man, you need to do something everyday”, Gretzky says on the podcast. However, Gretzky took it sportingly and was motivated to go along with the Jacksonville native’s piece of wisdom. “I kind of looked at her and I said, you know what you’re right, that’s how you stay young, stay active, stay busy”, the star athlete admitted.

In addition to that, Gretzky confessed that he was more than just engaged with it, he actually grew fond of his job. He said, “I knew I was gonna like this… it’s been more fun than I thought it was gonna be.” Turns out, Gretzky found his new job to exceed his expectations and had a fun time going about it.

The Canadian player now works as an analyst at TNT, as per reports. Further in the interview, he confessed that he was “loving it”, since it involved watching hockey. Besides that, he mentioned that the first two nights at his job were especially exciting because of the great hockey matches he got to analyze. 

Another instance of Wayne Gretzky’s challenges

Wayne is never out of challenges in his life. Nevertheless, he doesn’t mind tackling them. On a similar note, the Ice Hockey prodigy opened up about his difficult time away from his family. Reportedly, Gretzky was busy coaching in Phoenix along with his son, Trevor Gretzky, whilst his wife, Janet Jones and the children lived in Los Angeles.

The 61-year-old athlete regarded it as a tough time since he missed out on special bits of his children’s lives. “I get emotional. Sometimes my heart rate doesn’t come down till the morning after a game. But it’s enjoyable”, Gretzky disclosed.
