The founder of the Barstool recently posted a throwback picture on his X handle. It took every WWF fan back to days when wrestling was the biggest thing. When the wrestling universe was just thriving with legends bigger than today. The nostalgia was strong with that post, and the fans couldn’t hold themselves back from reacting to the golden days of wrestling.

Professional wrestling has been in America for more than a hundred years. The recollection of it dates back to the 1800s post-civil war and it has evolved through decades to become the big cultural phenomenon it is now. Revered throughout the world, the American wrestling fan base is passionate and loyal.

A throwback to Nostalgia

Dave Portnoy shared a throwback post of the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. It took back fans to those golden wrestling days when the personas the legend portrayed were enough for the audience to get hooked to their television screens. Reposting a picture of the two wrestlers, the Barstool President wrote, “When wrestling was wrestling”.

Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri or Iron Sheikh as we all famously know him was one of the legends. The champ who passed away recently was an Iranian-American wrestler, and actor. He was the first, and thus far only, Iranian champion in WWE history. He teamed up with Nikolai Volkoff to form a professional wrestling tag team. They competed in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from 1984 to 1987. The “Hall of Fame” wrestlers have been the reason for great joy and passion for many people throughout the decades. Dave Portnoy’s throwback brought it all back for the wrestling fans as they flooded the comment section.

 Childhood memories and WWF

The fans instantly recalled their childhood and younger days remembering Iron Sheikh and Nikolai as the greatest heel of the time. When wrestling was pure fun. Calling it the golden age of wrestling. Some even called it the real wrestling, pointing out how wrestling has changed since then and has become more of a story plot rather than wrestling. People were taken back to the WWF days and recalled the insane charisma these wrestlers had.

A fan had a positive reaction to the post and shared how there is this x-factor missing about wrestling now, in their post they shared.

Fans remembered being actually scared of them. Hinting their disappointment with WWE most fans were posting how they miss WWF. Things have gotten different, there is more story, more skills and more entertainment value added to it now. The old-school WWF fan might be missing the golden days when it was all about who was the “biggest” and “worst”.

Professional Wrestling is garnering new audiences now. It is a cultural thing now, and it just keeps on evolving, while some will love and hate the new, there is one thing sure, everyone will always love the old legends of the sport.
