The WTA Finals is widely considered the biggest event in women’s tennis following the Grand Slams. Held in Cancun, Mexico, it offered Coco Gauff a chance to end the year on a high note. Going into the tournament, Gauff was coming off her best season yet. The teenager won the US Open in 2023, beating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, for her first Grand Slam title. In addition, she had title wins in Auckland, Washington D.C., and Cincinnati.
Prior to her semifinal showdown with compatriot and frequent doubles partner Jessica Pegula, a beautiful moment transpired. The moment in question involved her father, Corey Gauff. He and Coco Gauff were seen in two images shared side-by-side by the Tennis Channel handle on X. They captioned it with the words, “Father & daughter bond” and followed it with a heart emoji. The post found a notable taker in Noah Lyles.

On November 5, Tennis Channel took to its X handle to share two heartfelt stills of Coco Gauff and her father. In the first image, Coco Gauff and her father stood with her eyes closed and heads bent. They held hands, presumably praying together.
Following that, in the next image, Coco Gauff began walking away. As she did so, she engaged in a fist bump with Gauff, Sr.
Following this, the 2023 World Athletics champion, in 100m, 200m and 4x100m disciplines, Noah Lyles tipped his hat off to the wholesome moment. He added his own reaction to that post with the words, “Love to see it.”

Noah Lyles was rather appreciative of the moment. He reacted to the post almost 14 hours after it first appeared but sent his love to the pair in the images, regardless. A little after that, the Gauff’s season would end with disappointment.

Coco Gauff loses to compatriot Jessica Pegula
In the second semifinal of the WTA Finals, Jessica Pegula got the better of Coco Gauff. She won in straight sets in just an hour by a 6-2, 6-1 scoreline. The pair, ranked the best in the doubles circuit, were eliminated by Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva in the Round of 16 in the same competition. Gauff and Pegula lost 6-3, 4-6, 8-10 on that occasion. Pegula will face Iga Swiatek for the singles title on late Monday afternoon.

It was far from the fairytale ending to the season that Coco Gauff would have wanted. Simultaneously, she is only 19 years old. After becoming just the first teenager to win the US Open following Serena Williams in 1999, the sky is truly the limit for Gauff. She has age on her side and could, potentially, become a dominant force in the sport, don’t you agree?
