Sometimes, a single incident is all it takes to tip over an entire weight class. Such an incident happened in January when the top 133-pounder from Lehigh suffered a broken elbow. Yet the All-American with a 5-0 record sat on top of InterMat’s NCAA rankings in February despite not competing since December 2024. Unfortunately, the wrestler himself has extinguished the final flame of hope that his fans held on to.
In a game-changing social media post for his division, star wrestler Ryan Crookham confirmed what many had feared. “I will not be competing this post season.” Despite his eagerness and best efforts to bounce back, it turns out you can’t overcome a broken elbow so easily. “I’ll be ready next fall to make a run for that title,” announced the sophomore.
Naturally, the college wrestling community was devastated to learn that the Lehigh star wouldn’t be back before 2026. However, no one wanted to see last year’s third-place finisher put his entire career at risk just to chase this year’s title. “Prayers up,” one fan commented on the NCAA wrestler’s post on X, wishing him a swift recovery.

While Ryan Crookham’s post was the final nail in the coffin of his 2024/25 national title dreams, the post didn’t catch fans off-guard. Even the most optimistic fans didn’t think the wrestler would be able to bounce back before the end of the year. Some even suggested that the Mountain Hawk should look for ways to get a redshirt.
Unfortunately I will not be competing this post season. I’ll be ready next fall to make a run for that title. Appreciate all the support and love. Go hawks 🤎

“Better to apply for medical rs if possible,” commented one fan when the news first surfaced in early January. Now it seems that the NCAA star may have been looking for ways to recover in time to participate in the postseason. Unfortunately, that comeback will have to wait till 2026 rolls around. Needless to say, the fans are ready to wait.
The NCAA division gets interesting amidst Crookham’s absence
While losing Crookham was a huge blow for the EIWA, the fans assured they’d be there to cheer Crookham throughout his recovery and beyond. “I’m so sorry Ryan. Heal well and can’t wait to see you back better than ever,” commented one college wrestling fan. While the netizen was devastated by the news, he advised Crookham not to rush the recovery.
