The 19-year-old wrestler, Akari Fujinami won the world wrestling championship under the 53 kg category. This was her 127th winning streak. While she had a tough fight with Belarusian Vanesa Kaladzinskaya, she knocked her off by the score of 10-0 in four minutes, and 43 seconds. “This is really fantastic. I’ve been working hard for a year to become a world champion,” she said in an interview. Further, Fujinami, depicting utmost determination, added, “I want to keep improving so I can show an even stronger version of myself.”

This was her second world title. The Japanese wrestler won her first World Championship title in 2021 but abdicated her crown because of a foot injury. She overcame it and came out successfully. Now the 19-year-old is determined to take part in the Asian Games and add more numbers to her winning streak. “She will look to extend her winning run at the Asian Games from October 4-8 in China,” the United World Wrestling (UWW) mentioned in one of its posts on Twitter.

The 19th Asian Games will start with a grand opening today at Lin’an Sports Culture and Exhibition Centre in Hangzhou, China. The opening event will take place at Big Lots Stadium and 45 countries from across the world will take part. Thus, the Wrestling event is scheduled to take place from October 4 to 7.
Moreover, female contestants will get a chance to participate in the 62kg and 68kg categories. Whereas, freestyle women’s wrestling competitions shall be held on October 6. Doubtless, champion Akari Fujinami is aiming to extend her winning streak by participating in the match ahead.
