Since last summer, the betting scandal has overwhelmed the wrestling behemoths of Iowa State University and Iowa (Hawkeyes). The ongoing charges already forced the NCAA to suspend 14 athletes for the offense. Because of the ongoing investigation, fresh developments kept coming in. As a result, the court proceedings moved over in tandem. Among the wrestling programs of the famed camps, Iowa Hawkeyes has had its staunch hit with four wrestlers already suspended. However, ISU faced a less calamity. But that would be as of now.

In recent times, some fresh developments irked both coaches of those wrestling camps. Previously, it was Hawkeyes’s wrestling HC Tom Brands to show his disgruntlement on certain points. Now it was a turn for Kevin Dresser to spit out his agony for the developing scenario.

On Tuesday, ISU’s chief wrestling coach Kevin Dresser didn’t mince his words to take down the investigating authorities. He voiced for all the students and athletes who were going through the quagmire because of the betting fiasco. Previously it was the warrantless GeoFence set in the outside of the dormitories of the University to get an impaling question of legality. Later, Kevin Dresser brought out a new side, connecting to Paniro Johnson’s case. The X-post of Jacqueline Cord framed it. The caption of it said, “I had a phone call from Paniro…I have phone calls from 3-4 of my athletes saying “Coach, I have some guy here that wants my phone. He’s got some piece of paper that says he can take my phone.” So, my advice at that time was let’s get an attorney and at least find out the process here. But, they didn’t.” Dresser narrated those lines at Tuesday’s press conference.

Reportedly, the investigators had taken the phones from the doubted athletes in their custody for the investigation part. But when the recent developments displayed certain loopholes in the investigation, the phone-taking part also raised questions. The wrestling HC echoed that part in claiming, “It was bully these kids at 7 o’clock on a Monday morning and grab their phones and here we are.” He had certain disbursals for the opposite wrestling camp as well.

The wrestling camp and Paniro Johnson at the receiving end

ISU’s wrestling phenom, Paniro Johnson, had received his accusation last summer for allegedly hiding his identity in the garb of tampering with proofs. But after last Tuesday’s motion by his defense, Christopher Sandy, the whole accusation thing, stumbled. Sandy brought in the charges of misconduct by the investigators.

So on that fiasco, ISU’s wrestling HC termed, “It’s a good thing that Paniro has thick skin and he’s been through what he’s been through in his life because there were some dark days for him.” In the same press conference, Dresser also had few good words in support of the same-state rival camp. So, in the dark times, the positive thing could be this bonding between the camps.
