The ongoing wrestling season hasn’t seen the Pittsburgh Panthers at their best. With a 7-4 record, the Panthers have a long road ahead if they’re looking to end the season on a bright note. While the 2023 NCAA champ is one of their own, the Pittsburgh wrestling team still is struggling to find its feet this season. However, it looks like their journey to glory will have to take a backseat at the moment.

The Panthers were scheduled to take on the Iowa State Cyclones this Sunday. Pittsburgh’s motivations to show their mettle were all the more hyped thanks to their 21-14 defeat to the No. 4 Cyclones in Nashville last December. However, it looks like the Panthers will have to wait to avenge their last defeat of 2023, as inclement weather is making it difficult for fans to travel to Ames.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the official Pitt Wrestling account has shared the news of the canceled dual. As the Iowa authorities also strongly urge fans to watch the Cyclones’ clash against Utah from their homes, it looks like the voyage to redemption for the Pitt wrestlers will have to wait till the green flag is visible through the snowstorms. “Sunday’s Pitt at Iowa State dual has been canceled due to the extreme winter weather conditions in the Midwest.“, reads the recent post, while the post also suggests fans take appropriate measures to stay safe.

While the Pitt wrestlers suffered a major loss at the hands of the Cyclones, the Panthers’ win over OSU made them achieve significant glory during the last weeks of 2023. And yet, facing the No. 4 wrestling team in the country would be their best chance to prove the Panthers’ recovery process in 2024. However, while Sunday’s duals stand canceled, the Pitt team had more work at hand as No. 5 Oklahoma State traveled to Iowa for nonconference duals.
