The USA’s wrestling scene is one of the most bustling ones in the world. With some incredibly decorated athletes, Team USA has maintained a steady grip on things in the international circuit. And few have managed to establish their dominance like David Taylor. With achievements like a gold medal in the 2020 Olympic Games Taylor is easily one of the nation’s greatest. However, even Taylor has had trouble when he faced the likes of Jordan Burroughs in the early days of his career.

Burroughs, the 6-time world champ and 2012 Olympic gold medalist is another wrestling sensation who has seldom led his country down on big stages. While the 2024 Paris Olympics inching closer, a decade-old video of these two juggernauts has surfaced and enthralled fans across the cyber world.

Jordan Burroughs imparts valuable knowledge to his junior

In a recent Instagram post by Wrestling Stars, a match from 2014 between David Taylor and Jordan Burroughs is doing the rounds across the Internet. Fresh from his 2012 exploits, Burroughs was flying high, eager to establish his status among the country’s all-time wrestling elites. Understandably, the young Taylor was also fixated on trying to subdue his heavyweight opponent and make a name for himself. And yet, when the two clashed, the senior wrestler exerted his experience by taking down one of the country’s finest.

The video shows Taylor and Burroughs locking horns in a draft match, and the intensity can be felt just by watching the short clip. However, Burrough’s superior skills keep Taylor at bay as the four-time US Open champ keeps his opponent under relentless pressure for the whole bout. In the first period, Burroughs can be seen down by 1 point, but coming back strongly with a decisive takedown forging ahead 2-1.

In the second period, a thrilling tussle between the two highlights why these two emerged as the country’s top talents in the years to come. Taylor’s attempts for an ankle pick yield him another point but Jordan quickly ends all debates with three successive points. While the match ended 5-2 in Burrough’s favor that night, both have come a long way since and are currently the flagbearers of USA wrestling on the international stage.
