It was a historic night for the University of Iowa. Simultaneously, it is the inaugural season for the women’s section of the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling department. The Carver-Hawkeye Arena hosted its first women’s wrestling dual, as a record number of spectators watched on. 8,207 people gathered to watch them host the Trailblazer duals on Sunday.

Three other institutions were part of that spectacle. Presbyterian College, Lindenwood University, and Sacred Heart University were the guests on November 12. The Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team emerged victorious against all of them, with a combined score of 127-5. They beat Presbyterian College 44-1, Lindenwood 43-0, and Sacred Heart 40-4. There were some superb performances along the way. One of them starred Kylie Welker.

On their official X handle, the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team shared a video of Kylie Welker in action. The words adjoining the tweet went thus, “Get loud CHA! 191| Welker with the fall over Eggering in 28 seconds.” Welker squared off with Lindenwood’s Kennedy Eggering in the 191-pound weight class. Usually, she competes in the 170-pound weight class, as she did against both Presbyterian College and Sacred Heart on the same day. Regardless, Welker gave more than a good account of herself. She pinned her opponent with the bout just 28 seconds old.

Kylie Welker’s pinning of Kennedy Eggering was the fourth of its kind inflicted upon Lindenwood by the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team. Felicity Taylor, Emily Frost, and Marlynne Deede were the others. Welker beat Presbyterian’s Henlee Haynes and Sacred Heart’s Love Daley via technical falls, as well. Both those matches were in her usual weight class, namely 170 lbs.
