Training with Olympic gold medalist and former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo would be nothing short of a dream come true for any wrestler. Thankfully, for teenage wrestling phenom Bo Basset, that dream became a reality at the ongoing 16U & Junior National Championships.
The 17-year-old wrestler and Henry Cejudo met at the championships and the 37-year-old could not help but train the rising talent. Despite reaching the pinnacle of freestyle wrestling and MMA, Cejudo never passes up an opportunity to help rising talents. USA Wrestling’s Instagram page uploaded a clip that could be seen as a passing-the-torch moment between Coach Cejudo and Bo Bassett.
“Olympic gold medalist @henry_cejudo is always giving back to the sport.” the official Instagram handle wrote in the caption. The clip showed Cejudo showing Bo Bassett how to nail the timing of the single-leg takedown. Bo Bassett even commented on the clip. “So Blessed to learn from a legend. Thank you @henry_cejudo,” wrote the elated 17-year-old world champion.

Henry Cejudo appears to have some time on his hands and attended the ongoing 16U & Junior National Championships. The UFC veteran quashed retirement rumors in February after losing to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 298. It seems Triple-C doesn’t have any fights lined up soon, allowing him to do an extra session with Bo Bassett.

Just because Henry Cejudo isn’t training for an upcoming fight doesn’t mean he’s sitting idly. In fact, Coach Cejudo made an exciting announcement just two weeks ago. The former Olympic gold medalist revealed he would help Artem Vakhitov transition from kickboxing to MMA. After Israel Adesanya, Vakhitov is set to become Alex Pereira’s biggest rival, sharing a history in kickboxing. Meanwhile, Bo Bassett looks set to carry forward the legacy of USA wrestling.

“Weekly recruiting report: Recruiting has been going amazing. Here at Fargo and in Peru, I got a chance to say hello to so many great coaches. Each week continues to get harder as the list gets smaller,” Bassett posted on Twitter yesterday. Just as in previous weeks the wrestler eliminated multiple schools and among them was Big Ten member University of Maryland.
However, with multiple Big Ten schools still on his list, Bo Bassett doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to choose where he’ll start his collegiate wrestling career. In the meantime, the 17-year-old is focused on improving his craft, winning medals, and learning from veterans such as Henry Cejudo.
