Starting with college wrestling, then WWE, and now the NFL, Gable Steveson has had several experiences with variations in different sports and categories. With six seasons as part of the University of Minnesota wrestling team, including his added career in WWE, he started his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills this season under a three-year deal signed on May 31, 2024.
But unlike wrestling, his football career was tough to tackle at the start. Faced with challenges and less knowledge of the sport, Gable’s addition came at a time when the Bills’ star players were already dominating the field. In a recent interview on The Bader Show, Gable Steveson discussed the hardships he faced and his level of knowledge about the sport by joining the Buffalo Bills team.
“Nowhere near anything. Yeah. When I showed up at the buffalo, I did a buffalo trot. I made it like the 29th of my birthday was May 31st. I signed on May 31st, and I stayed there for a week and a half of OTAs, and when I tell you I didn’t even know how to get into a 3-point stance. I didn’t know the. I didn’t know shade in the center to be in a 3, to be in a 2, to be in a 5, and I don’t play the 5. That’s more like at the time that Von Miller and Greg Russo’s position, A.J. Epenesa.
So I’m sitting there in the 1 and 3, just looking at a guy, and I’m reading his key because we’re supposed to read the keys as the shoulder in which he turned, and if he pulls, you gotta follow either the tackle or the guard coming up. Um, I had no clue. They spent a lot of time with me those first, um, few weeks, like showing me the Playbook. They’re showing me how to line up. They’re showing me, like, putting the hand to the toe, and if someone goes this way, react this way, so it was hard at first.” Steveson’s struggles were justified.

Concerning his challenges joining a new sport with less knowledge, it came as a big counterattack in terms of his performance as a footballer. Joining with great enthusiasm, Gable Steveson’s career in the NFL does not come as praiseworthy as his wrestling career.
Gable’s disappointing new role
Joining a 53-player roster of Buffalo Bills and at a time when players like Von Miller, Greg Russo, and A.J. Epenesa dominated the field, Gable Steveson’s prominence does not come out much. After making his addition to the Bills in May, not even lasting for more than three months, the former wrestler didn’t make the cut and got waived in August.

The lack of football experience, along with his addition alongside the known names, however, comes as the foremost point for his setback. But did his three-month career in the NFL see him giving his best foot forward for the Bills? Making his debut in the Bill’s pre-season opener, Gable performed his role as a footballer for the first time in action against the Chicago Bears. Suffering a big loss by 33-6, the newly turned footballer overall played in all three preseason games of the Buffalo Bills. Sharing his first-hand experience as a footballer, he once stated, “My first football game ever definitely. Um, a great time. It’s cool to see all the Buffalo Bills fans come out. Not the way we wanted to end, but it’s preseason; we’re here to grow, and we’re here to get better.“
Attaining three tackles along with a pair of quarterback hits, Gable Steveson’s NFL career carries not much of a game that can be talked about or discussed. His wrestling career, on the other hand, from his high school to his college days, had prominence with problems and setbacks received in his professional career with WWE. Gable Steveson’s collegiate career will be something that will remain in history and prominence.
