The indomitable competitive spirit of the professional wrestler Spencer Lee is certainly taking him places. A 3-time NCAA champion, Lee has cemented his unparalleled legacy as the most accomplished Iowa wrestler of all time. Qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, he is en route to establishing himself as the GOAT.

As he recently clinched victory at the Senior Nationals Freestyle title, Lee took to reveal the reason behind his recent participation. In an exclusive interview, he talked about his desire to compete and why he thinks it’s important. Let’s take a look.

Spencer Lee does not miss any opportunity to compete

Recently, the YouTube channel, Clash of Combat, hosted by Cayden Henschel and Crosby Schlosser, took to release a special interview with none other than the wrestling icon, Spencer Lee. The podcast channel shares stories from the world of combat sports. The special episode is titled, “Spencer Lee on Winning Senior Nationals.”

The hosts posed the question to Lee, interrogating him regarding his decision to play in the Regional Nationals. Was it to just get matches, because he certainly did not have to re-qualify for the trials, the hosts queried. To this, Lee answered, “I went to just compete, you know, I like competing.” He continued, “I am an international guy now, I am no longer a college guy. I don’t have every single week of competition like in college you have. So like, when there’s an opportunity to compete, it just made sense.”

Lee is focused on keeping his skills sharp. He does not want to blunt it out, given that he has the Olympics to look forward to. Hence, he considered the Regional Nationals to be an integral part of the process.

Spencer Lee qualifies Olympic trials

Spencer Lee, former Iowa Hawkeye wrestler, has qualified for the Olympic Trials at the Bill Ferrell Open in the 57-kilogram class. Months after he had departed from the US Open owing to his leg injury, he has returned to the mat securing a spot in the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers. Defeating the former Penn State wrestler Nico Megaludis, Spencer Lee was at 7-4, in the 57-kilogram final. He is a three-time age-level World freestyle champion and marked his first victory after his departure in April.
