The imminent tale of the wrestling icon started way back in 2021 when he announced his retirement from collegiate wrestling. Eventually, after spending time as a coach for team Iowa State, the wrestler moved to Wisconsin to conclude his college career.
Along the same lines, wrestling spectators have stormed social media with recent news of his return to collegiate wrestling. Interestingly, after getting a medical clearance from NCAA authorities, the wrestler has declared that he will be joining the University of Michigan’s wrestling team this season.

Austin Gomez posted a video of him on his Instagram account to display his exceptional moves as a part of the University of Michigan. On 13th December, Austin penned, “〽️”. In the accompanying video, Austin can be seen wearing an outfit with Michigan written on it. Austin will be finishing his final year of collegiate wrestling as an eligible wrestler at the University of Michigan.

Interestingly, Gomez announced the news a few days after NCAA authorities granted him eligibility to play for another year. As the wrestler entered the transfer portal, he found Michigan was a natural fit to come up on the wrestling mat. The major reason behind this observation was Gomez’s involvement as a part of Ann Arbor with the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club.
After competing for Mexico internationally, Austin is ready to dominate collegiate wrestling while joining the four graduate transfers. To bolster the University of Michigan’s lineup, the university added Michael DeAugustino, Chris Cannon, Lucas Davison, Shane Griffith, and now Austin Gomez. But What will Austin be competing at?

Can Gomez bolster Michigan’s chances?
Before his injuries as a freshman, Austin competed in the 149-pound weight category. Likewise, Gomez will compete in the same weight class this season. Impressively, Gomez is a perfect contender for the Wolverines. Currently, Gomez is placed at the fourth position as per the 2022 NCAA Tournament, as he defeated the current first-ranking wrestler, Ridge Lovett, twice in that season.

Michigan ranks at 14th position and is only 22 points away from the trophy. Therefore, Gomez’s points and Michigan’s incredible lineup would lead to three top finishes for the team.
