Machine Gun Mindset: That’s the secret to Bo Bassett‘s success as a wrestler which was inspired by his father, Bill Bassett’s philosophy. As a young lad, Bassett was hesitant to attack his opponent, but his father taught him to be relentless by opening up as many scoring opportunities as possible. The result? Very few names have been as dominant as the high school kid.
However, the wrestling prodigy got entangled in a controversy with some fans crying foul. The wrestler is in the older faction of his high school class after he was held back prior to high school. He is 18-years-old from Bishop McCort school. In fact, he will be 19 during his senior season. So a section of fans felt his age helped his dominant run. How true is that?
Here’s the thing: Bassett has not broken any rules. As per the rules, he can compete in high school and he also competes U20 in freestyle tournaments. If anything, it is quite common to hold some kids back for physical development in wrestling. Many of his opponents are his age. Regardless of the issue, Bassett has been dominant, crushing competition. In 24 matches last year, he never once had to go full six minutes. No wonder several college programs have been trying to recruit him. This includes Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Pitt-Johnstown, and more. And we are sure if they hear about the wrestler’s new achievement, they will try their best to get him on board.

As reported by ‘Baschamania’ on Instagram, “Not to be lost in the impressive Bishop McCort dual win over Wyoming Seminary this week is the Bo Bassett’s latest accolade: his 100th career high school win. He’s now 100-0 in high school with: 62 Techs 32 Falls 96/100 Bonus.”
The #4 Wyoming Seminary was against the #2 Bishop McCort. Wyoming Seminary was also on a 719-day winning streak, but that didn’t go well, as Bassett and his team were able to demolish their wrestlers and secure a 37-17 victory. But who did Bassett battle against? It was Wyatt Fry in the 150 lbs division. And the results? Bassett absolutely destroyed him with a 21-5 technical fall in 2:52. And as per reports, this particular win propelled him to his 100th straight victory in his high school career.
This accolade came after his three major titles in the season. To acknowledge these wins, he sent out a heartfelt note to his legion of followers on social media, stating, “Blessed to be a 3x Powerade, Super 32 & Ironman Champion! Grateful for every moment, every challenge, and every victory & defeat. This journey has been filled with hard work, faith, and incredible support. The season’s far from over.”

Never once in his life will Bassett forget his faith, nor will he refuse to acknowledge the efforts that he put into his career. Indeed, he wants that top-tier college to kickstart his NCAA career in the future, and he knows that every single victory is another step closer to his ambition. However, despite the dominance and this 100th win, many in the community are in doubt about the statistics. Here is what fans stated.

Wrong stats? Wrestling fans are simply not on the same page…
Whenever there’s an unpredictable accolade like Bo Bassett achieved recently, the community often questions the legitimacy of the stats and that’s exactly what seemed to happen. Fans wrote:
- “Idk man, the numbers seems really rigged. Who’s counting? I remember Knox and Zepeda did win against him.”
- “People just refuse to remember that he was smashed by Knox at Super 32 man, like quit on the glazing for a minute.”

Yes, it is true that the wrestler lost to Anthony Knox in 2021. However, he came back in 2022 and avenged his loss, and won the Super 32. That being said, Super 32 is an independent, preseason tournament and a win or loss doesn’t get counted in a wrestler’s high school record. Regardless, fans further stated:
- “But didn’t Anthony Knox beat Bo at super 32?”
- “What about the Zepeda pin?”
Again, it is true that Bo Bassett lost to Daniel Zepeda in 2023 at Who’s Number One event. Yet once again, the former avenged his loss in 2024. However, the event is organized by Flo Grappling and isn’t connected to his high school record.
