Purdue University’s wrestling team kicked off the new year with a triumphant start. The Boilermakers’ final non-conference test of the season took place at their home, notching up the excitement levels. Purdue Boilermakers faced Lindenwood Men’s Wrestling team on 3 January, Wednesday in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Boilermakers left the crowd in awe with their outstanding combat skills. With the outstanding win, Purdue Boilermakers broke the 9-year record by scoring the highest points first time in the era of coach Tony Ersland.

Purdue Wrestling stormed into the new year with a roaring win, taking to its official X handle to cherish the victory over the Lindenwood Men’s Wrestling team. They impressively scored the first 50 points under the guidance of new coach Tony Ersland. Lindenwood had to face the defeat in their second-ever season in the Wrestling Division as they scored only 6 points in the match. The Boilermakers successfully picked four pins along with four techs against Lindenwood. Apart from Purdue’s Redshirt Sophomore Dustin Norris, all nine wrestlers secured victory. This marks another instance of Purdue’s rise under Ersland.

Tony Ersland has been assisting Purdue’s wrestling team since 2015 and he was one among the nine head coaches who were participating in their first season as a Division. Entering his tenth season as Purdue Wrestling’s head coach, Tony Ersland has a dual record of 78-69. His 78 victories rank third in the history of the program. There is more to it.

At the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, the Boilermakers ultimately broke over the All-American barrier and put two players on the podium after coming close several times. Ersland has been the only coach who has brought his team into the final USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll.

Purdue Wrestling opened the season back on November 5, at the Clarion Open. While they had hoped to set foot space in the season, Matt Ramos had brought one of the biggest upsetting losses. However, battling against the rival team Lindenwood Men’s Wrestling team for the first time, Purdue’s dominant display indeed was a bewitching moment.
