With a 12-0 record, the Penn State wrestling squad wrapped up the regular season in style. While all NLWC wrestlers did more than their parts for the cause, senior Carter Starocci’s run has been at the helm of things. With a 64-match winning streak, Starroci now eyes a historical feat that will seal his place in history. However, a small snag in the last match of the session made things troublesome for Starocci and the team.

In that match, the Penn State wrestling team brushed aside Edinboro with a commanding 55-0 win on home soil. Starocci picked up another victory after stomping over Brody Evans (22-5). During the dying moments of the bout, Starocci suffered a leg injury and had to be supported off the mat. With the Big Ten Championships breathing down on the country’s top talents, head coach Cael Sanderson now shed light on Starocci’s situation.

According to the latest Instagram post by FloWrestling, it seems like coach Sanderson is confident that their star player won’t be swamped so easily. “He’s doing pretty good“, Sanderson attempted to clear the murk. Carter Starocci is eyeing his fourth straight NCAA title. However, to do that, Starocci will first have to weigh in and make sure the Big Ten Championship doesn’t go amiss amidst his injury.

Sanderson went on to clarify that Starocci’s fixation on the historic moment hasn’t deviated. “…what his plans are, they haven’t really changed“, claimed iconic Penn State wrestling’s head coach. Cael went on to note that Carter’s predatory mentality has been looking for its next victim and the Big Ten Championships is the perfect place to satiate his thirst.

I think it’s still search and destroy basically“, Sanderson confessed without much ado. Considering how Starocci’s season has been, it’s only justifiable that he doesn’t want to let one nagging injury turn out to be a roadblock on his way to Penn State wrestling greatness. And Starocci has expressed his target to wrestle for that on many occasions.

Carter Starocci is eager to hit the mats

Starocci’s 60 matches without taking a loss on the way is currently the longest-running D1 streak in the country and was achieved when Carter took down Maryland’s Mason Stein. But he was forced to be the cheerleader for his teammates for several matches in January and February. And Starocci was not happy about that. “It’s not a good feeling being out there not wrestling, especially seeing your guys suit up and you’re just laying low. But if things escalate outside the mat, I’ll be right there,” Starocci had told on that occasion. And this was not the first time.

“When I’m not wrestling, I’m not really happy,” Carter Starocci had told on an earlier occasion. That unhappiness surely itches Starocci for another national title (as long as he gets on the mat before Aaron Brooks). However, Penn State’s aspirations aren’t limited to only Starocci’s prowess.
