As the NCAA Wrestling Championships enter the most exciting phase, all the eyes will be on the wrestling, right? Almost. Because this time the President of the United States, Donald Trump, will be in attendance at the grand event. With Penn State nearing a historic feat, Trump confirmed that he would be traveling to Philadelphia to make his presence felt in the final rounds of the tournament. Amid this, the wrestling world has been divided over the political presence at Wells Fargo Arena. Nonetheless, Penn State star Mitchell Mesenbrink shared Travis Kelce’s opinion in supporting Trump’s presence at the venue.

Earlier this year, Trump also attended Super Bowl LIX, and Kelce was amazed by his presence at one of the biggest events in America. Additionally, Kelce also termed Trump’s presence as “cool” but was heavily criticized for his words later. Similarly, Mesenbrink feels that Trump’s presence at the NCAA Wrestling Championships is a blessing in disguise for the tournament.

During a press conference at the tournament, Mesenbrink revealed, “If you put politics aside, no matter if you are conservative or liberal, whatever, to have a president, the President of the United States, be at, you know, something that we wanna get people to watch, right? We want people to watch wrestling. We want people to be able to, you know, funnel not just money, but I mean views, people’s time, and their attention is money, you know, so.”

He further explained, “I think that’s cool, and I think if it was, you know, a conservative or liberal, it’d be really, really cool. Democrat or Republican, whoever it is, it’s the president of the United States, the leader of the free world at a wrestling event. That’s really cool when you think about it that way.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Trump is attending the NCAA Wrestling Championships. A huge fan of the sport, Trump also turned up to the event in 2023, now returning here for the second time in three years. Talking about supporting the athletes there, he said, “We’re going to the big fight. The reason I’m going is in Philadelphia. They have the NCAA, world, wrestling for college. And I’ve always supported the wrestlers.”

While Trump’s visit has been primarily due to his love for wrestling, many fans have linked his visit to sporting events with politics. In the comments, fans were supportive of Mesenbrink’s words, but when Kelce supported Trump’s presence at the Super Bowl, he was widely criticized.

When Travis Kelce expressed excitement over Donald Trump’s presence

Ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, Trump was in the headlines over his attendance at the event. There was much talk surrounding it, with some supporting his presence while others felt that he was there just for political gains. Nonetheless, the Kansas City Chiefs star, Travis Kelce, was excited to have the POTUS witnessing the biggest event in the United States.

Expressing his emotions, Kelce said, “I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there—it’s the best country in the world, so it’d be pretty cool.” His views are fairly in line with what Mitchell Mesenbrink expressed earlier.

However, Kelce was widely criticized by the media and fans for his opinion on Donald Trump’s presence at the Super Bowl. Subsequently, his team also went on to lose the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles 22-40 to end his campaign on a disappointing note. Mesenbrink will certainly hope that his team doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Now at NCAA Championships, Mesenbrink has won his semifinal encounter and will be up against Iowa’s Michael Caliendo in the 165-pound final. Can he help deliver Penn State yet another NCAA Championship win while taking the individual crown? Let us know your views in the comments below.
