Nothing hurts deeper than poor management. The lack of implementation of rules and regulations in a prominent contest can cause a deep scar on a participant. And if the participant is of a younger crop, the impact might remain for a long time. This time, the Beast of the East wrestling contest had to face a similar blame. The contest was scheduled to be hosted at the University of Delaware on Saturday. As usual, the promising wrestlers from the University of Delaware and several others flocked in to enter the contest. The fans expected to see something scintillating on the mat. But things took a different turn.

On Saturday, during the late hours, the X-handle of Northampton Wrestling brought a serious allegation to the wrestling contest. What was it? The X-handle complained that the fold’s Gavin Grell was made to wait despite going through every process. As per the handle, the 17-year-old had to wait for 12 hours to play his first wrestling game since the process of weighing had been carried out.

In a crowded wrestling contest like The Beast of the East, an incident like that is far from being imagined. The fans failed to settle with such a management problem. On X, they sharpened their attacks on the contest. One such fan wrote, ”That’s completely unacceptable.” A deep look into the problem may cause hiccups. Why?

The update says that Gavin reached the round of 32 without playing a single game in the tournament. He received two byes while making his path to the round. On a regular wrestling day, that would signify the shortage of wrestlers in the concerned weight bracket. Only that can allow a wrestler to jump over the rounds without playing a game. But was that the case in The Beast of the East wrestling contest? No! Instead, the contest witnessed a high number of entries.

Additionally, as per the official X-handle of the tournament, Gavin Grell’s 285-weight bracket had 53 wrestlers on Saturday. However, the bracket was for 64 men. But in the 53-contestant strong bracket, the wrestling phenom had no one to play against! Isn’t that something hard to digest? Meanwhile, for Gavin, something grave waited. Did the long wait for a game cause the grave outcome? Hardly anyone would argue. But what happened exactly?

In the round of 16, the Northampton wrestler faced a defeat by Mateo Vinciguerra from Woodstown. The 4-0 sweep result came as a massive blow as it was Grell’s first game in the tournament. The teenager had already been maintaining a 40-28 record. Just two days ago, he pinned down Jacob Cozze in the duel of Northampton and Nazareth Area. Even so, the Nazareth Area took away the victory in the duel. But Grell’s performance in the 285-category came as a relief. But on Saturday, nothing went as planned. The fans ridiculed the management of The Beast of the East tournament. They blamed the poor handling of the matter.

Wrestling fans term the management ‘insane’

A sharp attack like, “This is insane…,” came from Pat Mineo. The wrestling sport raconteur has witnessed a diverse range of events in the games. But as per him, nothing can beat The Beast of the East’s mistake. However, a few wrestling fans don’t want to call it a ‘mistake.’ As per them, this is something huge. One such sharp remark came from Joe Warren.

The wrestling sports enthusiast wrote on X, “Poor bracketing, no need for a double bye to the rd of 16 with 100 kids in the bracket.” Soon, the contest’s X-handle put a comment under his lines to rectify the data: “The only instance of a double-bye to the round of 16 was at 285, a bracket with 53 wrestlers. The largest bracket in the tournament is 126 with 88 wrestlers.” However, according to Warren, that might not give the management space to allow a wrestler a double bye in a day. Next, the fight of words continued between the two entities in the comment box.

Meanwhile, another wrestling raconteur joined the debate. Per Brad Wilson, the veteran sportswriter, there’s no end to this pit. His comment went, “Very good question. Don’t count on getting an answer.” Yes, a justified answer has yet to come. Rather, the authority has counted it as something one in a hundred. Is that so? What do you think about this?
