Home/Olympics

Spencer Lee, the three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion, will probably go down in history for having an iron will. After sustaining a horrendous injury earlier this year, Lee’s return was highly talked about and he didn’t disappoint. Last month, Lee won the coveted Bill Farrell Memorial and has once again shown his mettle at the National Seniors. While the Iowa student has possibly confirmed his ticket to the Paris Olympics with this win, many fans are upset for having missed the epic showdown between Lee and Michigan prodigy Nick Suriano.

Suriano and Lee’s clash was the match-up that caught the attention of wrestling connoisseurs across the nation. Both athletes have formidable followers thanks to their stunning achievements. However, Suriano was a no-show at the Nationals and now, Spencer Lee, shared his thoughts on the missed opportunity.

In a recent podcast, Lee was heard talking about his Senior Nationals win. The three-time Big Ten gold medalist won this year’s Nationals after taking down arch-nemesis Nico Megaludis of Pittsburg with a 6-2 decision win. Throughout the entirety of the tournament, Lee faced some significant foes but held his ground with resolute determination. However, while his win is certainly something to celebrate, fans can’t stop speculating about an absent Suriano.

The hosts of the Clash of Combat podcast had a long list of questions for Lee. After talking a while about Lee’s health conditions and his recent Senior Nationals win, one of the hosts mentioned Suriano and jocundly asked if he’s been avoiding a bout with Lee. Spencer couldn’t hold back his grin and brushed aside the curiosity with gentle ease.

You don’t know what’s going on with people’s lives, man“, stated Lee with calm. “Come on, dude“, said Spencer after being asked if Suriano has been “ducking” the former. The Hawkeye made it clear that his colleague had good reasons for not appearing for the Nationals.
