With the objective of spreading awareness about mental health and the stigmas surrounding it, recently a former wrestler also shared a powerful message with his team. A video of the freestyle wrestler who currently coaches the University of North Iowa’s wrestling team has been posted on social media.
Following this video of coach Doug Schwab, the Olympic champion’s partner, while being elated by his vulnerable speech, also shared an important message on social media. This heartfelt effort from the two has made waves in the wrestling community.

On October 10th, NCAA Wrestling posted an intriguing video of Coach Doug Schwab on X. After this video, North Iowa Coach’s partner, Allyson Schwab, who frequently advocates for pressing issues such as autism on social media, reposted the video while highlighting the necessity of therapy in the caption. According to Schwab, if one does not wait until they have a cavity to go to the dentist, “then why would you just assume the only reason people go to therapy is because they have a problem?”

Further, while appreciating Doug Schwab for being candid about such issues, Allyson added, “I couldn’t love this man more for the truth he speaks and the vulnerability he shows, especially if it could make a difference to someone else.”
Such efforts from the wrestling community’s favorite mom came after Doug Schwab was spotted trying to make a difference in the lives of the young wrestlers. The athlete also highlighted the importance of his students’ mental health more than their performance on the mats.

Recently, Coach Doug Schwab was seen discussing pressing issues with his students. In the video posted by NCAA wrestling, the freestyle Olympian while highlighting his own experience of bad days, the athlete reassured his student by stating, “You got some here that love you and care about you as a person. We don’t give a sh*t about anything that you can do in a wrestling match. We care about you as a person.”
Furthermore, while discussing the impact of small things such as suddenly running into somebody, giving somebody a look or just a pat on the back or talking, the athlete asked his students to “be the difference for somebody; It may not make a difference, but it sure as hell could be worth it because if it makes a difference for one person it is worth it”.

Lastly, while reminding all the resources present for the wrestlers, the athlete added, “We’ve got a lot of resources around; make sure you reach out to them. It’s okay to struggle; it’s part of life.” Such efforts from the freestyle wrestler truly help to make a difference in the lives of the many.
