When it comes to collegiate wrestling, few names can match up to the legacy of Penn State. The Nittany Lions Wrestling Club is called home by some of the most coveted wrestlers in the country. Internationally decorated wrestlers like David Taylor and Kyle Dake have bolstered NLWC’s reputation beyond reproach and it looks like the elite club is set to add more depth to its roster yet again.

With 12 NLWC wrestlers recently qualifying for the Olympic Team Trials, Penn State is soaring on high clouds. And now, another promising wrestling star’s childhood dream is on the verge of materializing as Penn State has picked up yet another commitment ahead of the next season.

Penn State wrestling making waves

In an Instagram post, Nathan Desmond of Bethlehem Catholic has announced his commitment to Penn State’s wrestling wing for the 2024-25 season. The two-time Pennsylvania state champ was known to have decided to transfer to Wyoming Seminary after high school, but it looks like there has been a slight change of plans. Revealing his next big career move, Desmond wrote in his post, “To say I’m beyond blessed is an understatement.

Desmond is known to set his goals with high standards and dreams of someday becoming an Olympian. Along with that, he also hopes to win the NCAA title. With such high ambitions, the Nittany Lions seem to be the obvious and logical choice for the rising wrestling sensation.

In his post, Desmond has also shared an old picture with Cael Sanderson, the Olympic gold medalist and the current head coach of the Nittany Lions Wrestling Club. Desmond also thanked all his coaches who helped him along on his journey and made sure to keep his passion ignited.

An old dream comes true for the new commit

Desmond’s Instagram post shows just how much being part of Penn State wrestling means to the young one. “Since I was a little kid, I set goals. Some were unable to envision and understand“, says Desmond, with him finally being within a hand length from achieving his dreams. Nathan visited only 5 colleges in the country to make sure his decision-making process didn’t get murky with too many options to ponder over.

The #7 recruit of the class of 2025 will be joined by Luke Lilledahl and Joseph Sealey as the newest members of the NLWC. Lilledahl has been under the limelight for quite some time now and has faced off against the likes of Spencer Lee. The 2022 U17 world champ Sealey is also likely to make Penn State’s foes take notes as he waits to lend his expertise to his new squad.
