Wrestling world champion David Taylor’s brotherly relationship with an Olympic gold medalist is nothing new to the wrestling community and sports world. From their journey at Penn State University to reunions, both have come a long way. Practice commencing at 13:30 sharp, the Penn State hall hearkening back to last year was always full of energy, with seven current and former world and Olympic medalists there as Taylor unveiled a day in his life. He aimed to replicate the same with his wrestling chum this year .

Other than Taylor and his Olympic bud, there were Dake, Kyle Snyder, Thomas Gilman, Cael Sanderson, and Geno Petriashvili. Together, they were a team of athletes converging under one roof. However, fans found that history repeated itself when USA Wrestling’s recent Instagram post unveiled a compelling scene of two champions. Olympic gold medalists David Taylor and Jake Varner were seen honing their craft in the illustrious Pennsylvania State University (PSU) wrestling room. Thei camaraderie and collaborative spirit was recently seen as they were seen jousting on the mat.

The captivating glimpse into their training regimen encapsulates the essence of grit and determination inherent in wrestling. In that Instagram post, the legendary verse from Proverbs 27:17 states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Taylor and Varner embody the unwavering pursuit of excellence, pushing each other to new heights through every grapple and takedown. Also, their presence in the PSU wrestling room took fans on a memory lane to the past, when they spent lots of quality time as fellow wrestlers.

A previous blast from the past YouTube video of Taylor has proof of those valuable moments. He shared post-practice, and at 17:50, Taylor retreated home to celebrate his birthday. Also, Taylor embarked on the M2 Training Center in State College at 19:10. That was a sanctuary he established to nurture aspiring wrestlers in their pursuit of excellence. Taylor even donned the coach hat, teaching techniques and pushing young talents in practice sessions, focusing on finishing and defending leg attacks. Independently, Taylor and Varner have achieved many victories in their illustrious careers.

David Taylor has emerged as one of the most captivating figures in freestyle wrestling. After overcoming a severe knee injury that sidelined him for nearly a year in 2019, Taylor’s triumphant return to the mat has been inspiring. Notwithstanding the challenging COVID-19 pandemic, he delivered a masterful performance. That time, he dominated Myles Martin with a commanding 11-0 victory.

On the other hand, Varner’s collegiate wrestling odyssey began with a redshirted debut season in 2005–2006. Concluding his tenure as a Cyclone with a repeat NCAA 197-pound title, Varner left an indelible legacy at Iowa State University. Who knows, together combined, what a tour de force they would be.
