A highly-anticipated fresh season of NCAA wrestling has begun and has instantly caught the attention of all Americans. While it is a fresh season for all the collegiate teams, it is the first-ever season for the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s wrestling.
The Iowa Hawkeyes have solid programs in almost every sport. However, this is the first time the they are competing on the mats donning singlets. After a ‘historic’ victory registered on the road, the Iowa wrestling team will now play the host for the first time.
A tough challenge knocks the doors of Iowa Hawkeyes

The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s wrestling team showcased formidable performances in the first week of its inaugural season. Competing against East Stroudsburg University (ESU) on 4th November, the Hawkeyes made history by registering a staggering win. The new team of Iowa won the duel against ESU with a whopping score of 43-1.
The Iowa Hawkeyes instantly jumped to the eighth rank as a result of this stomping victory in their debut season. Now, the women’s wrestling team of Iowa will face Sacred Heart University Trailblazers. After the grand victory on the road, the Hawkeyes will now play hosts for their SHU opponents on 12 November.
The Trailblazers possess a really good team that was bested just four times last season. The Sacred Heart University women’s wrestling team finished the 2022-23 season with a score of 17-4 with a five-match winning streak. Moreover, the SHU wrestlers won four away duals while losing just one of them.
The first-time hosts thus have a big challenge ahead of them. This will be the opening match of the SHU Trailblazers, and hence, they’d look forward to starting things on a winning note. The Hawkeyes however stand ready to face their tough opponents. In fact, the Iowa women’s wrestling team recently won six gold medals at Princeton University to declare its readiness to everyone.
The blazing wrestling spectacle of Iowa women at Princeton
Iowa’s staunch win against ESU was followed by a dazzling show at the Jadwin Gymnasium of Princeton University, New Jersey. Apart from Princeton’s gold wins, the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s wrestling team also recorded 10 top-three finishes in the competition.

Speaking about her team, head coach Clarissa Chun said, “The Princeton Open was a great season opener competition with other collegiate programs from the East Coast, women’s club programs, and senior-age women to compete against.”

Head coach Chun further said, “There was great wrestling from our women and we are looking forward to continuing to get better throughout the season.” Opening the season with a bang and six gold medals, the Iowa Hawkeyes are more than ready to face SHU.
