The American wrestlers continued their dominating streak at the 2023 Pan American Games. Interestingly, one of those wrestlers, hailing from the University of Pennsylvania, filled the big shoes of the 6x World Wrestling Champion Jordan Burroughs in Santiago. And the wrestling prodigy is none other than, 3x NCAA All-American champion, Tyler Berger.

Tyler Berger is a 74kg freestyle wrestling superstar who triumphed over the competition at the 2023 Pan American Games. This comes as a big achievement for Berger, as he registered big strides along the path of his college senior. In what comes as another good news for Berger, a social media post recently revealed that he has been recognized with a national honor for his Chile campaign.

Jordan Burroughs is arguably one of the most phenomenal wrestling superstars ever grace the mats. Burroughs was the winner of the Pan American Games title across three iterations in the 74kg category (2011 Gudalajara, 2015 Toronto, 2019 Lima). Continuing his work forward, Tyler Berger made sure that the 74kg Pan Am title stays within America.

Presenting him a national honor for this, USA Wrestling made an announcement via a tweet from its official X handle. The tweet carried the caption, “Pan American Games gold medalist Tyler Berger named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week.” The additional honor after upholding the legacy of his senior Jordan Burroughs is the cherry on top for Berger in November.

Tyler Berger and Jordan Burroughs both belong to the Nebraska Huskers wrestling program. The senior husker hasn’t just paved the way for every Nebraska wrestler with his achievements but for the entire nation. While he has already claimed the Pan American Gold medal, his next goal is to compete in the Olympics. In fact, as an additional quest, the young Huskers’ wrestler will also have to do a favor to Jordan Burroughs along the way.

Facing the same rival as Jordan Burroughs for the upcoming Paris Olympics

Jordan Burroughs had a heated rivalry against America’s 74kg wrestling powerhouse, Kyle Dake. While the Nebraska Huskers always kept Dake at bay, the Cornell University wrestler managed to nick a victory in his last bout against Burroughs. Surprisingly, the loss for Jordan Burroughs came in the match that decided the representative of the US in the Tokyo Olympics.

Thus, despite losing just one match against Kyle Dake, Jordan Burroughs still took a lot of damage. Now that the US has an Olympics qualification in the 74kg category, Tyler Berger will have to face his senior rival. However, it will not be an easy task as Kyle Dake is a 4x world champion. Will Tyler Berger be able to avenge his Nebraska Huskers senior at the upcoming Olympic trials in April?
