The Ohio State wrestler competing in the 141-pound bracket has been a major contributor to the Buckeyes securing a third place in the CKLV championship. He put up a 5-0 individual display in that run. These included three back-to-back wins over Top 15 wrestlers in his weight class, including one against national No. 4 Brock Hardy of Nebraska.

This staunch display by Ohio State Wrestling star Jesse Mendez has earned him one more accolade. A social media post recently broke the news that once again raised the Buckeyes to a high.

Jesse Mendez bags weekly honor

On December 6, The Big Ten Wrestling Club took to its official X handle to announce the news that Ohio State wrestler Jesse Mendez has bagged the Wrestler of the Week honor. The caption read, ‘’🤼‍♂️ #B1GWrestle WEEKLY AWARDS 🤼‍♂️🔵 @wrestlingbucks   Jesse Mendez’’ Notably, The All-America sophomore secured his third Big Ten Player of the Week Award during the current season.

 

With his incredible wrestling skills, Jesse took out No. 7 Ryan Jack of North Carolina State and won this title. Jesse left the crowd in awe by bringing Ryan Jack to the mat from his standing position for a 5-2 win in the wrestling match. The match became a tie at 1 followed by an escape during the third period. The 29-year-old wrestler Mendez showcased his talent in the world of wrestling and achieved several accolades in his career.

An exemplary determination from Mendez

Mendez received the title of All-American at the 2023 NCAA Championships as a freshman. Beyond this, he stole the show as he won the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week title twice, during the Big Ten Championships in 2022 and 2023. Mendez captured the hearts of his fans and rose to prominence as one of the top wrestlers as he helped Team USA win the Silver Medal in the 2023 U20 World Championships in Amman, Jordan. His statement after the match screams determination.

In a video interview that USA Wrestling released on its YouTube channel, Jesse Mendez, while talking about the match said, “I’m proud of myself. I think it’s the best wrestling I’ve had…I fell short, and I wasn’t the better wrestler today. It really s***ks right now, it stinks…. I keep my head down and keep working.” He added. That work is surely paying off. We keep our fingers crossed for more such fabulous displays from Mendez.
