The crowd gathered in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena numbered 8,207, according to a report by Dos Moines Register. That was a new world record for the largest-ever attendance at a women’s wrestling event, according to an announcement made at the arena. It is yet to be confirmed at the moment, as noted afterward by an Iowa athletics department spokesperson.
With records not readily available, it is difficult to say if the Hawkeyes had a record crowd present. As mentioned by the spokesperson, the crowds for women’s wrestling are not that large. Regardless, the University remains confident they have set the record by a comfortable margin.
