“Austin is one of the most electrifying wrestlers in the country,” Sean Bormet, Michigan Wolverines’ HC once said. The wrestling camp was eager to include the former Wisconsin wrestler. However, at that point, Gomez’s one-year eligibility was on the card. However, the Michigan Wolverines used the graduate transfer program to invite the Mexican wrestler into the camp. That was one of the prior moments for MSU, as it was already preparing for the upcoming tussles. The Iowa Hawkeyes faced the latest wrath of it.

On the B1G road, the Iowa Hawkeyes were up against the Michigan Wolverines on Friday. For Iowa, it was the flight where the opponent was much of a similar weight. However, the result was against all beliefs of Tom Brands, Hawkeyes’ HC.

The Iowa Hawkeyes’ 2024 class faced a huge stumble against the bravado of the Michigan Wolverines. The Michigan Wolverines camp already made it clear to take down the high-flying Hawkeyes, riding on their late form. However, the Hawkeyes’ coach wasn’t ready to accept the words of the worriers’ pack. But on Saturday, the reality panned out as the Wolverines camp boasted. They hounded the Hawkeyes in the bouts. The latest one came from Austin Gomez in 165-category. The X-handle of the Wolverines proudly added, “165: Gomez cruises to a 5-1 decision over Voinovich with the second-period takedown and a third-period rideout (2:16 RT). He improves to 5-0 this season. Michigan 13, Iowa 0”

In the ongoing fights, it was the third consecutive loss for the Tom Brands-coached team. The first one came from Michael DeAugustino in the 125 category. He defeated senior Ayala with a scoreline of 3-0. Next, in the 133 and 141 categories, the results were the same. In 141-category, the top-gun, Real Woods faced an unbelievable defeat from the Wolverines’ freshman, Sergio Lemley. That boosted the morale of the Wolverines quite largely. After that, there was no look back.

The emphatic scoreline of 5-0 in season

Eventually, the night ended on the side of the Michigan Wolverines. The Sean Bormet-coached team handed the Hawkeyes a heartbreaking defeat by the scoreline of 24-11. That was huge for a squad that was outshining every opponent just a few days back. However, for the Wolverines, the achievement was even bigger. With the victory against Voinovich, Austin Gomez rose the ladder with a scoreline of 5-0 this season. In the Wolverines’ jersey, it is his first season, despite practicing at Ann Arbor for quite a while.
