David Taylor, aka The Magic Man, is out here doing what he does best—turning matches into magic shows, whether it’s as a wrestler or a coach. Only a few days ago, his Oklahoma State Cowboys entered McCasland Field House and soundly defeated the Sooners 35-3, their first dual meet loss of the season. OU did snag a gritty win at 149 pounds, thanks to No. 20 McDougald, who scored a 7-6 win in ride-outs but for the rest of it the No. 3 Cowboys dominated the bout. OU’s own coach, Roger Kish, conceded that it was a difficult match but saw it as a good opportunity for his team to learn, “I think this is going to be a great learning opportunity for our guys.”

Meanwhile, David Taylor and his squad? It was all business and all heart – 100% commitment. Honestly, it was a total Magic Man kind of night, where everything felt as good as the win! But here’s the thing: the night was not only about the score as something else that night took the limelight, and made the night even more special and prideful for David Taylor.

According to The Oklahoman, there was one last highlight of the night that made everything even sweeter—new orange singlets for OSU! These were not ordinary uniforms; they were the best of the old and the new. Featuring the iconic chevrons on the back and a sleek “Cowboys” in cursive across the front, they carried all the pride and history that comes with wearing the orange. David Taylor couldn’t help but gush about them, saying, “We talk about having pride in wearing the orange singlet. We got a mix of the traditional chevron and the newness with the cursive ‘Cowboys’ on the front, and keeping the tradition of the orange singlet.”

Taylor also hinted that it wasn’t just about the design—it was about what the singlet represented. He made sure to let it be known that when his team steps onto the mat in that orange, they’re representing Cowboy wrestling and the tradition of the sport as well as the future. “The guys looked good, and the singlets looked good, too,” Taylor said. And to be quite honest, who can disagree with that? OSU had style, tradition and a win all packed into one great night!

A few months ago, David Taylor offered us a glimpse into a change that is coming for OSU’s famous orange singlet. But he did not stop there! He made sure to emphasize that this is not just any uniform that one can put on, and then step out to the mat. Nope, this one’s earned, not given. Taylor explained, “If you wrestle in the lineup, you’ll be in the orange singlet. Open tournaments, you’ll be in a plain, black singlet. So it’s something that you’ve got to earn the opportunity to wear that singlet. It’ll be something unique this year.”

It’s not just fabric and stitching—it’s legacy, pride, and preparation wrapped up in bright orange. Taylor has always believed the orange singlet holds weight, saying, “The history and the relevance of wearing that orange singlet means something. You don’t just throw it on and go out and wrestle if you’re not prepared. It’s something you’re working for.” And judging by how the team debuted it, they’ve more than earned the honor. So let us go back to the time when OSU revealed the new singlet in all its splendor and why was all the hype?

Now, let’s take a moment for the OG singlet—a classic solid-color beauty with that legendary OSU logo right on the chest. Introduced way back in the 1960s, it carried more than just fabric; it carried decades of blood, sweat, and victories. For over 60 years, it was the symbol of grit and glory, deeply woven into the Cowboys’ identity. And while change is never seamless and leaving something so iconic behind is never easy, but in this case, it feels like it is a ‘thank you’ for the past and stepping forward into the future.

The new design is like a Thanksgiving gift wrapped in vibrant orange—bold, dynamic, and brimming with ambition. It perfectly aligns with today’s fast-paced, ever-evolving wrestling community. By unveiling this fresh look, the Cowboys are sending a clear message: they’re ready to inspire the next generation while honoring the rich history of their brand. And it seems the new singlet is already radiating that winning energy, with David Taylor’s Cowboys securing a victory, suggesting that this fresh design might just be their lucky charm.
