The first Big Ten dual of the season is panning out brilliantly for the Iowa Hawkeyes’ wrestling team. Taking on No. 6 Nebraska Huskers, the Hawkeyes have a firm grip on the situation and national title favorite Real Woods is having a dream run. In the 141lb weight class, Woods faced off against Nebraska’s No. 7 Brock Hardy. The duo met thrice last season, and it looks like Hardy still needs to take notes of his high-flying opponent.

In a recent social media post, Woods’ stellar performance on the mat. The Iowa Hawkeyes’ last big matchup against the Iowa State Cyclones ended with a resounding win on the road, and they continue to subdue their ranked opponents in style as the current season rages on.

Iowa Hawkeyes’s wrestler picks up major career win

In a post on X, by the official Big Ten Wrestling account, Woods can be seen locking horns against his ranked opponent. The Hawkeyes were already leading the Huskers ahead of the round two matchups, and Woods kept the momentum going. In the short clip, Hardy can be witnessed having a tough time as Woods maintains a firm grip around the former’s waist. With two definitive takedowns, Real Woods secured a 7-2 win over the 2023 U23 World Championships bronze medalist.

With his latest win, Woods recorded his 30th victory as a Hawkeye, sealing his place as the No. 1 wrestler in the 141lb weight class this season. Woods and Hardy battled it out three times last season, and the Iowa man picked up all three wins. Now, as the Hawkeyes look forward to making the most of the current season, Woods will be determined to etch his name among the elites at the Iowa campus.

By defeating Hardy, Woods also recorded his fifth-ranked win of the season, making him a formidable name in his weight class. Even the commentators acknowledged Woods’ stellar form and exclaimed “Great level change by Woods“, in the middle of the match, as Hardy struggled to get back on his feet.

Hawkeyes look to decimate the Huskers

The No. 3 Iowa vs No. 6 Hawkeyes dual was a significant fixture and was expected to direct the way for the rest of the season. While Woods picked up his milestone win, other Iowa wrestlers didn’t hold back. Nebraska’s Caleb Smith faced a major upset loss against Drake Ayala in the 125lb bout, while Hawkeye Brody Teske fell to Nebraska’s Jacob Van Dee.

On the other hand, Rodge Lovett of the Huskers took down Iowa’s Caleb Rathjen in the 149lb matchup. Robb Peyton, who’s already been having a difficult time, faced a tough challenge and fell to Iowa’s Jared Franek in the 157lb weight class.
