Nebraska Huskers started the wrestling season pretty decently. Only days ago, the Huskers trampled over the UNI Panthers, but Peyton Robb was met with an unexpected loss. However, it looks like their luck against the Iowa Hawkeyes remains as grim as it has been for the last three decades. In their first Big Ten meet of the year, the Hawkeyes retained their winning ways from last season over their ranked opponents.
In a recent social media post, the Hawkeyes announced their triumph at Nebraska-Lincoln last night. The weekend premier dual saw the Hawkeyes wrestling team coming out on top once again with a 36-10-1 record against their stellar foes. With a 23-10 win in the dual, the Hawkeyes have handed the Huskers their first dual loss of the season.

In a post on X, the official Iowa Hawkeye Wrestling account looked to set the record straight. Captioned “15 Straight“, the Hawkeyes are finding it difficult to maintain calm right now, and for good reasons. With the latest win, the Iowa team is now leading the scoreboards 14-0 against the Huskers under the tenure of Tom Brands. The accompanying image shows Peyton Robb being taken for a ride by Iowa’s Jared Franek, and the photo can be considered a summary of last night’s dual.

Among the 10 bouts of the night, the Hawkeyes won seven. What’s more impressive is that six of these wins came against ranked opponents. Drake Ayala of Iowa showed his most aggressive self of the season, as he took down No. 7 Caleb Smith with a 7-3 win. With the win, Ayala sealed his claim as the title contender in the 125-pound weight class. In the 133 weight class, Jacob Van Dee of the Huskers secured a win against the Hawkeyes’ Brody Teske.
However, the Hawkeyes soon got back their momentum as Real Woods claimed his 30th win as an Iowa wrestler as he defeated Brock Hardy with two takedowns. Then, the 149lb weight class showed why Nebraska’s Ridge Lovett is the No. 1 wrestler in the category as he beat Caleb Rathjen, who’s been riding high after his recent Soldier Salute glory.

In the 197lb bout, Iowa star Zach Glazier put out a dominant performance to pick up his 14th win of the season. The Huskers added depth to their roster recently with football star Nash Hutmacher, but Iowa’s Bradley Hill had other plans in his mind as he spoiled the new recruit’s night in the 285lb matchup.
