In 2021, Gable Steveson made headlines by signing with WWE, a move that showcased his potential to shine in the world of professional wrestling. Initially, he made waves in the industry, but complications arose, leading to a parting of ways. Despite this setback, the 24-year-old holds no grudges against anyone in the pro-wrestling world and remains open to the idea of a second chance in the ring.
In an interview with FloWrestling, Steveson reflected on his experience and admitted there were things he would approach differently if given the opportunity to start over. He candidly stated, “Was definitely, take a serious approach. Be honest with myself. ‘Is this what I really want?” This introspection highlights a more mature perspective as he looks back on his time in WWE.
Furthermore, when the host of the interview asked him if he wanted to return to the world of pro-wrestling, Steveson went candid, stating, “Be honest with the people at home, and be honest with everybody else that is watching and like I mentioned before just not the right time, and if I could come back to it then I definitely would, and give both feet in, and push forward that agenda and get to where I need to go.”

When the wrestler entered the WWE, he was a hot prospect owing to being an Olympic champion. He could’ve repeated what Kurt Angle was able to achieve in his tenure a few decades back, but he was unsuccessful. But why was that so? Due to Steveson’s lack of expressiveness and his inability to establish a strong presence like other entertainers, the industry was forced to release him after a few years of his contract, as the crowd didn’t find him engaging. However, when the drift happened between the two, it caught the attention of many out there, including a legend in the sport.
Steveson’s departure leaves the wrestling legend confused
Kurt Angle, who was the first Olympic champion to sign a contract with WWE way back in 1998, was interested in seeing how Gable Steveson made it to the scene. His journey was no different, but the way the 24-year-old was released just left him surprised. Speaking to Casey Salengo on eWrestlingNews on YouTube, he opened up about the situation, stating, “Yeah, good kid, yeah, I talked to him a couple times; he’s an incredible athlete; I mean, the kid really is. I don’t know what happened and I don’t know if he decided he wanted to quit or WWE wanted to release him. I don’t know if he had a bad attitude.”

Both of them have served as mentors and mentees, yet Angle remains uncertain about the reasons behind Steveson’s departure. Regardless of the sport the two-time NCAA champion chooses to pursue, the American wrestling legend is confident that his talent will lead him to success. Angle’s assumption is also accurate, as the moment Steveson joined back college wrestling, he started dominating the sport with the Gophers.
In the current season, Minnesota has an advantage over the other teams, and their head coach, Brandon Eggum, is determined to have a stronger campaign with the Olympic champion on their side. Where do you think Steveson will land next? Tell us in the comment section below!
