Amit Elor is a wrestling phenom. She finished at the top of the pile in eight World Wrestling championships across multiple age categories. Only 19 years old, she competes in the 72 kg weight class. In 2023 alone, Elor emerged victorious in the U20 World Championships, the Senior World Championships, and the U23 World Championships. Her focus now shifts to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

All those achievements would not be possible without great sacrifice. In Amit Elor’s case, that has been proved true. She had to make a great many sacrifices at the personal level and keep her mind on her craft exclusively. Elor indicated much the same in her latest post on her social media.

Amit Elor posted a short video to her Instagram. In it, she displayed the question, “Why do you sacrifice so much for a sport?” The answer featured a highlight reel of her triumphs in her sport. Elor captioned the post thus, “Everything is worth it for moments like these. I will galdly continue to trade in ‘missed experiences’ for what I get through wrestling. I’ve been able to travel and meet people all over the world. This sport has given me mental strength, work ethic, discipline, and much more.”

The accompanying clip shows some of ELor’s winning moments. It featured Elor taking down her opponents on the mats and taking a victory lap wrapping up her national flag. Understandably, for Elor, such moments take away all the pains of not being able to spend the life of another 19-year-old.

Amit Elor’s remarkable record in international wrestling

Amit Elor’s overall record stands at an impeccable 24 wins and not a single loss in the Seniors bracket. En route to the U23 World Championships in the Albanian capital in October 2023, she avenged her compatriot Kennedy Blades. Blades, incidentally, lost to Indian wrestler Reetika Hooda in the 76 kg weight class. Elor beat Indian wrestler Jyoti Berwal in the final via technical superiority to clinch her eighth World title.

Doubtless, an Olympic gold medal is next on Amit Elor’s agenda. It remains to be seen if she can add that accolade to her trophy cabinet in Paris next year. 72 kg is not an Olympic classification, so she will need to make the 68 kg weight class if she is to make her way to the banks of the Seine. The road to the City of Light is a long one for her but she will not shy away from the challenge.
