One such name that has been around every corner of the sport is Bo Bassett.
Indeed, he’s a hot prospect in the 2025-26 season, after he completes high school. Many colleges have also showcased interest in having him on their team, but in the end, it all depends on the wrestler to make a major decision in his career. And while touring campuses, he hasn’t forgotten about his wrestling career, as his latest title victory has stunned many and yet again raised his value among the colleges that want him to join them.

Bo Bassett is much more popular than an average high school wrestler. Why so? His popularity stems from his communication skills with his audiences and keeping them entertained and excited for his career. He also doesn’t give much attention to the critics, and why is it? That’s because he lets his wrestling performances talk for him, making his doubters silent every time he gets on the mat. He has rarely faced tough opponents, and Bassett appears fully prepared for his NCAA debut in the upcoming years.
Bishop McCort’s talent has consistently raised the bar for his team, under the guidance of his father, Bill Bassett. Indeed, his father, Bill Bassett, is immensely proud of his son and couldn’t have been more happy about his latest accomplishment. What did he do this time? In the 145 lbs division, the wrestler stood strong on the top step of the podium at the Powerade Wrestling Tournament at Canon-McMillan High School. He didn’t hesitate to pin Malvern Prep’s Declan O’Byrne in 2:31, taking home his third title in the event.

Yes, Bassett is now a three-time Powerade Wrestling Tournament winner, and this accolade came after his third Super 32 title and third Ironman Wrestling Tournament title. He is definitely living up to the community’s expectations, as they can’t help but discuss his dominance in high school wrestling. Indeed, this benefits Bassett indirectly, and how so? When literally everyone among the fans keeps his name in their mouth, eventually it reaches notable people, especially the head coaches of reputed NCAA teams. And how will this benefit him?
Hearing discussions about a particular wrestling prospect will compel the head coaches to delve deeper into his career. And he already has a storied one owing to his high school performances. While he has a long way to go before he joins a college to pursue his wrestling ambition, Bassett started by creating a list at the beginning of the year, which he eventually narrowed down to a few.

Bo Bassett determined to find a new home
A top prodigy such as Bo Bassett was never arrogant about his decisions, as he personally visited all of the available universities in the NCAA. Eventually, he narrowed down his list to just a handful of universities he truly desired to represent. He has visited Iowa, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State (in no particular order) during his college tour. Among the five universities, Ohio State was the first he visited, and he thoroughly enjoyed his time on campus, even participating in a photoshoot wearing their singlet.
Bassett made consecutive visits to Iowa and Virginia Tech. Touring Iowa, he had a favorable session with coach Ryan Morningstar and head coach Tom Brands. But what makes the college a good fit for him? His idol, Spencer Lee, has a rich history with the team, and he hopes to emulate his success by following in his footsteps. During his visit to Virginia, he also got a chance to meet with assistant coach Jared Frayer, Zach Tanelli, and head coach Tony Robie.

However, the wrestler’s most significant visit occurred when he set foot at Oklahoma State University. Why so? Since the start of the current NCAA season, the Cowboys have been the favorite of the community, and with them having their coach, David Taylor, leading the team, they are just dominant in most of the divisions. Indeed, if Bassett wants to start his career on a strong team, he would definitely want to choose OSU, and it’s something that the fans are waiting for. While on his visit, he also spent his time with coach Thomas Gilman and his review.
“Amazing workout with Coach Gilman. He brought it for two hours! Blessed to little so many small details. His enthusiasm was contagious. I loved the talk about enthusiasm and how it means inspired by God,” said the wrestling prodigy, as he was thrilled by the experience. Indeed, OSU could be a better option for him to train under the Olympic champion, who is expected to remain with the Cowboys for an extended period due to his lucrative contract.
