From grueling daily 5am workouts to an unwavering commitment to wrestling, Bassett’s every move has been closely watched. And when Bo Bassett decided to join the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program back in February 2025, it was the conclusion of a hotly contested debate: which program would nab the wrestling phenom?. Absolutely, this was a moment a lot of wrestling fans had been looking forward to, as one of the top high school prospects made his NCAA decision.
In his live announcement on FloWrestling, Bassett mentioned, “Maybe it wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right decision. And I’m eager to be a Hawk. Iowa is an empire.” So, if you’ve been keeping up with his college decision journey, you probably noticed that a ton of teams were eager to have him join their ranks, wearing their colors. But for Bassett, the Hawkeyes were really the only option.
So, with his NCAA future fully locked down, Bo Bassett shared an update on X, stating, “I got next year in U20 too! I will be wrestling in the Senior WTT in Kentucky for 65 kgs. God bless sir.” He confirmed that he still retained one more year U20 eligibility and also confirmed his decision to take part in the Senior World Team Trials – a big step in his wrestling journey, showing his desire to push his limits before he starts his college career with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The U20 World bronze medalist, has shown off his skills on big stages in wrestling already. His participation in the Senior Trials really shows he’s ready to take on any challenge. It highlights his commitment to improving his skills and gaining more experience.

Baffert knows he’s in for a lot of challenges as soon as he puts on that Hawkeyes singlet. Taking on challenges early in his college career really shows that he’s a strong athlete, ready to test himself against the best and build a solid foundation for his future. Bo Bassett took tips from an Iowa Hawkeyes star
“Every 5am & hard workout brings me closer to the next championship or closer to reaching my goals. 1% better every day, every workout,” said a focused Bo Bassett, excited to kick off his journey with the Iowa Hawkeyes. But this means he has to train really hard, and to support him, he’s teamed up with Max Murin, a two-time All-American for the Hawkeyes and one of their current coaches.

Bassett shared a photo on social media and said, “Thanks for rolling @mad_max814. Two hawks 🐤” Good times? For sure! “Grateful for the opportunity to get in a pre-Easter training session with Max Murin. Wishing everyone a Happy Easter!” Bassett also brought it up on his X account.

Training with Murin not only got him ready for the Hawkeyes but also for the 2025 US Wrestling Open. So, the wrestler signed up for the tournament in Las Vegas on April 23, and it looks like all that training really paid off!
