Is Virginia Tech the dark horse in Bo Bassett's recruitment saga? What makes them stand out?

Bo Bassett has a knack for staying in the spotlight with his college shenanigans! After adopting a Spencer Lee-inspired approach to his college recruitment process, the initial list of 80 schools has now been narrowed down to a more manageable 12. Unsurprisingly, top programs like Iowa, Penn State, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech are still in the running—and for good reason!

Over the past month, Bo Bassett has embarked on a whirlwind series of college visits. From October 25 to 27, he was in Iowa for an iconic visit, where he met his inspiration, Spencer Lee, and experienced the unforgettable Hawkeye Wave. But the journey didn’t end there. Bassett went on to visit Penn State, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech, with each program rolling out the red carpet for the highly sought-after recruit. However, while many colleges hold their position, some seem to be “off the list” this week!

The Bo’s ever-so-reducing list says no to “Tiger Style Mindset”

According to Bo Bassett’s latest list, released on November 21st, yet another college has been removed. After cutting Nebraska from his list last week, he has now decided to eliminate Missouri as well. But why Missouri? Was something missing from the program? Bo has addressed his decision in a statement directed not only to his fans but also to Missouri and its coaching staff. So, what did Bo have to say?

“Unfortunately, this week, I had to take Missouri off the list,” Bassett said. They are a great program with a top-notch coaching staff. I really enjoyed talking to Coach (Kendric) Maple.” Kendric Maple is, after all, the man with the Midas touch of turning wrestlers into champions. Maple was, after all, the man who led Keegan O’Toole to back-to-back NCAA titles at 165 pounds in 2022 and 2023. But unfortunately, his legacy did not seem to suffice for Bo to commit. But that’s not all!

Bo also went on to write, “I definitely know they got great things going on and love their Tiger Style mindset. I wish them the best and luck on the season.” Missouri may have been cut from Bo’s list, but it looks like they’ll see him on the mats soon—just as an opponent! While Missouri bids adieu, another college visit in the past few weeks seems to have impressed Bo beyond measure! Any guesses on the program?

It is none other than Virginia Tech! Bo Bassett visited VT between November 15th and 17th. And boy-oh-boy, did they impress him! So much so that he went on to write, “Their student section was great, and they had so many young wrestlers there watching.” Are the scales tipping towards VT? Sure, seems like it, as he went on to add, “The coaches are proven and driven, and Coach (Tony) Robie has built something special.” It’s clear that the Hokies might just have made it to Bo’s favorites!

As the visits and cuts continue, Bo has already scheduled two more visits before making any more decisions. It’s getting interesting!

Bo Bassett’s next stop? Meeting the legendary Magic Man!

After spending time with most of the greats in wrestling, Bo Bassett is heading to his last visit for this month of November. The next stop is Coach David Taylor’s Oklahoma State! Taylor has Bo himself put it, “If you think about wrestling, I feel like, ultimately, you think about a couple of schools that have dominated for a long time. And Oklahoma State’s right up there, for sure.” Right on Bo! And now, with Taylor as coach, there is no predicting how far the Cowboys can go. But that’s not all!

David Taylor has been someone Bo looked up to ever since he was a kid. So much so that when Bo was 8 years old, he even got a chance to learn some techniques from the Magic Man himself. And Coach Taylor has been doing rather brilliantly this season! The Cowboys started their NCAA season going up against Utah. And guess what?

Taylor’s first-ever dual as a coach saw the Cowboys finish with a 38-6 win! But the Cowboys have competition from another college that Bo will be visiting in January. Bo Bassett will be visiting Rutgers between Jan 24-26. Before pushing aside Rutgers, let’s not forget who the coach is! Rutgers’ wrestling program is headed by coach Scott Goodale. It was under him that the program truly changed.

Under Scott’s leadership, the Scarlet Knights have developed into a consistently competitive program, producing multiple All-Americans and achieving a top-15 national finish last season. That’s a resume Bo Bassett cannot overlook! As the week progresses and the list narrows, anticipation is building as fans eagerly await the decision on where Bassett will ultimately land.
