High school wrestling fans had a historic moment, as Bishop McCort ended Wyoming Seminary’s 719-day winning streak with a smashing 37-17 victory. The long-awaited dual meet showed the strength of Bishop McCort’s team and confirmed their status as emerging titans in high school wrestling. Junior Bo Bassett won a 21-5 technical fall in 2:52 over Wyatt Fry at 150 lbs.
Bo Bassett, the top-ranked wrestler in his division, gave a highly impressive performance and displayed the determination and toughness that summed up his club’s unbeaten path. Justin Basch, founder of Basch Solutions, has posted the new rankings of Bishop McCort and Wyoming Seminary since last year. At 106 pounds, No. 12 Keegan Bassett was the favorite to go against No. 15 Wyatt Stauffer, whom McCort had already beaten 7-2 in their previous meeting. Jack Chamberlain defeated freshman Jayden O’Farrill by a major decision of 20–10 at 165 to finish the streak for Wyoming Seminary. Apart from that, Melvin Miller, the top-ranked sophomore for Bishop McCort, defeated Brian Chamberlain by a major decision of 20-9 at 175.
At 190, Bishop McCort sophomore C.J. Pensiero netted a 17-0 technical fall in 1:56 over Nolan McCarthy. The other matches include #1 Jax Forrest against #23 Dale Corbin, and Forrest won by 19-8. Jax Forrest came down to 126 lbs from 132 lbs for this dual.
The Blue Knights had two victories at the end of the evening. Jude Correa, ranked #1, decked Matteo Noronha in 19 seconds at 215. The final score was 37-17 when heavyweight Anderson Palian defeated Caleb Rodriguez 3-1 to end the bout. That’s how Bishop McCort was able to break the streak and crush Wyoming.
