Last month David Taylor created quite a ripple when he accepted the head coach position at Oklahoma State wrestling team. Now he has come up with one more exciting update. Juggling with his coaching role, Taylor has lately started an exciting dual venture with a major business expansion, making his mark beyond the mats. Taylor has demonstrated his drive to succeed on and off the mat with this special step in his career.
When it comes to wrestling, David Taylor has seen the pinnacle of it. Apart from being the 2020 Summer Olympic gold medallist in 86kg. he also has three world championships under his belt. But his loss to another Penn State standout Aaron Brooks in the Olympic trials was somewhat of an anticlimax. But it seems that David does not want to brood over that. Therefore, he is growing his juice company, K2 Roots with the opening of a new shop in downtown State College.
The cafe, “k2roots,” just announced joyful news about the new K2 Roots location on Instagram. “New space update! Finishing touches are all that’s left and then it’s showtime at our 114 S Garner St location,” informed the post. The post showcased seven images of the café’s ambiance, promising a welcoming and light-filled space for those who are health-conscious.

When Taylor and his wife Kendra launched K2 Roots in 2017, they did so from a rented kitchen at Gray’s Woods Church. The company soon exceeded its modest origins, which led to the establishment of a store in Gray’s Woods in 2018. With an enlarged juice menu and items like smoothies, smoothie bowls, grab-and-go snacks, breakfast options, and coffee, the store acts as the brand’s downtown flagship.
Although it was challenging before COVID, Taylor clarified, “We’ve always wanted to be downtown, but prior to COVID, it was difficult. Now, we have the opportunity to spread health and wellness to a lot more people.” To demonstrate the continued support of the community, the pair intends to use products from regional farmers and brands.
David Taylor’s alternate pursuit is an ode to healthy life
As the HC of Oklahoma State, expectations are understandably high for David. Maintaining a parallel venture alongside that is no joke. David himself also acknowledged that. “It’s definitely difficult,” Taylor said, “but Kendra and I are pretty focused individuals. Health and nutrition are a big priority to us. We’ve integrated it into our lives on a daily basis. We put time into planning and being prepared.” But what leads David Taylor to work so hard at K2 Roots to promote healthy products?

It’s about bridging a dietary gap in people’s lives, not just about expanding business. “For myself, being in this community since 2009, there hasn’t been what we’re going to offer — a truly nutritious product from top to bottom,” Taylor noted. David Taylor feels personal fulfillment in the goods his business sells. “My favorite is the ‘Charge.’ It’s our least sweet green. For me and my training and career, I want to get as much greens as possible,” he says, emphasizing his dedication to easily adding nutrient-dense greens into his everyday routine. Beyond personal taste, Taylor views the growth of K2 Roots as a way to have a bigger influence.
The 33-year-old icon and his group intend to work with nearby companies to make sure their goods support the community’s economy while also improving the health of customers. “We’re also sourcing from local businesses. We want to support local businesses with what we’re offering and then, as a local business, we hope people will want to support us as well,” Taylor continues, reiterating its commitment to sustainability and community involvement. Thus, K2 Roots essentially reflects Taylor’s two passions, encouraging community well-being through local connections, and promoting health through high-quality nutrition.
