However, Iranian wrestler Hassan Yazdani flipped a switch inside Taylor who, despite intensely wanting to quit, chose to remain afloat.

While Taylor thought that the sport didn’t have much to offer him after his Olympic win, Yazdani beat him at the 2021 World Championships and proved him wrong. Yazdani avenged his loss to Taylor at the Olympics, and seeing his resilience, Taylor decided to stand up and fight as well.
The duo have faced each other four times now, and Taylor leads the head-to-head count with a score of 3-1. The US wrestler beat Yazdani a third time in the 2023 world finals at Belgrade. However, in a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, he dedicated his gold medal to Yazdani. Taylor revealed that the Iranians forced him to keep pushing forward.
